15th Anniversary of ‘World of Warcraft’ in Full Swing
- Runs from early November through early January.
- Relive old moments from past expansions in celebration.
- Earn mounts for completing events, earn a pet just for logging in.
Fifteen years of World of Warcraft; it’s pretty insane to think about. What started in 2004 exploded into a worldwide phenomenon that’s seen incredible highs and great lows. I’ve been around in World of Warcraft for 11 years of it, and what a ride it’s been. The questing, the raids, the pvp; most of the time the story… it’s been one of the ultimate gaming experiences as far as longevity goes for me. World of Warcraft’s 15th Anniversary Celebration kicked off on Tuesday, November 5th and runs through January 7th, 2020 for the American continents while Europe and Asia will run through January 8th and 9th respectively.
Every year, there’s a number of things to partake in during the World of Warcraft anniversaries, but this year is particularly special as they’re pouring on the goodies. Three mounts and a pet are all available with very little effort on your part and a huge window to complete the requirements. The only way you’re going to miss out is if you somehow never find time to play during the roughly two-month event.
First up, we have a limited-time raid event, the Memories of Azeroth. When you log in, you’ll receive a quest to go talk to Chromie in the Caverns of Time. Located in the Tanaris region of Kalimdor, you have plenty of options to get out there to see her, whether they be portals, land travel, or flying. I suggest portals in the main hub cities, as they’re the quickest route. Once you’re there, pending you have an item level of 380, you can queue up for the three different wings of this limited-time experience directly through Chromie. After defeating these three glimpses back into the past, players will unlock the achievement called Memories of Fel, Frost, and Fire. More importantly, you’ll unlock a new mount called the Obsidian Worldbreaker. Basically, you’ll have a rideable version of Deathwing. He won’t be throwing you off his back this time, that’s for sure!
Whether you’re a fan of PVP or not, you’ll definitely want to check out an old take on Alterac Valley with the PVP event Korrak’s revenge, which can unlock you one of two faction-exclusive mounts. This one is a bit more of a time sink than the raids, but once you complete the requirements, you’ll earn the Stormpike Battle Ram for Alliance and the Frostwolf Snarler for Horde. Don’t fret about doing this on each faction; once you unlock one you unlock the other.
Last but certainly not least is Blizzard’s gift to any player who simply logs into the game over the next couple months, a pint-sized version of the original terror of Blackrock Mountain, Nefarian. Lil’Nefarian puts one of World of Warcraft’s most memorable bosses in their place by making them a whelpling version of their former glory.
Despite all the chaos going on with Blizzard lately, it looks like they’ve really rolled out a good assortment to make the 15th anniversary something memorable for players. Will you be logging in to grab them over the next few months?
