3D Realms Renames ‘Ion Maiden’ to ‘Ion Fury,’ Makes New Trailer

  • Experience the original BUILD engine on steroids, pumped up and ready to rock again after 20 years!

After facing the threat of a lawsuit from the band Iron Maiden, 3D Realms has announced that they have changed the name of their game from Ion Maiden to Ion Fury. They’ve also released a new trailer that reflects this change. In speaking of this decision, Mike Nielsen, the CEO of 3D Realms had this to say:

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to rename our first-person-shooter Ion Maiden to Ion Fury. A lot of thought went into this, but most importantly it would be a disservice to our loyal fanbase and the fantastic developers, to drag out a long lawsuit. The amazing gameplay, interactivity and pure fun, is what makes Ion Fury a great game. Not the title.

Currently in early access through SteamIon Fury will fully release on August 15th. It was made using the Build engine, which is the same engine behind Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. To add to the 90s, nostalgia, Ion Fury is available in big box hard copy form through the official website.

At the time of this writing, 96% of the 1,032 reviews for Ion Maiden are positive through Steam.

  1. These guys did not deserve to get treated like they did by Iron Maiden. Talk about the big guy vs the little guy…

I’ll definitely be buying this out of support… And love for classic gaming

    • Yeah, Iron Maiden were basically just bullying these guys trying to stay relevant. The bit in the suit where they say that Ion Fury (Maiden) looks and plays like their Android game and that Bombshelle looks like Steve Harris is fucking laughable.

I’ll be buying it at launch and Maiden go go duck themselves.

  2. Idiocy. Trademark laws are cancer and should be abolished. At least I find the irony of a metal band being corporate pussies amusing.

I feel like medieval French torture device manufacturers should sue that one band.

Also the game looks really good. Glad they are avoiding a lawsuit.

Honestly, the game looks fine, but I wont be buying it early access. I’ll wait until the full game is released before making my purchase.
