Review: Days Gone is an open world post apocalyptic game from the developers of Syphon Filter. The game is about a character named Deacon ST. John (Sam Witwer). He and his buddy survived what seems like a zombie apocalypse but is slightly different. The enemies are actually called freakers and are basically infected humans that have mutated from some unknown virus. You will be tasked with keeping the camps that you are part of stocked and safe while also taking care of your own agenda. Days gone takes around 30 hours to finish the main story, but with all the side quest and the hordes there is quite a lot more time to be spent in this game.
Graphically the game looks beautiful. It takes place in Oregon, it gives you wet areas, snow ares and even desert areas. Which all look very good. The character animations for the most part look really good as well. There are some graphical issues that occur occasionally but a lot of those have been patched already. I personally haven't had any game breaking bugs or glitches. Sound is very nice also. In the beginning there were some sound issues but I believe those have been patched out as well.
Days gone takes a lot of ques from a lot of games and mixes them well. The one thing its does that not many if any other game hasn't done is add hordes to defeat. These hordes are very aggressive and large. They can be very intimidating in the beginning. As you level Deacon up you have more ways to be creative in taking out these hordes. There is definitely a mix of game play. You have stealth game play as well as gun and melee combat. You craft most of your gear as you earn the recipes. if you have played Assassins Creed or Far cry you should feel right at home. The game has an interesting character progression. In the beginning of the game you feel very week and slow and just plain sloppy. But as you build up Deacon he becomes very nice to play. The way it is set up you can really feel the progression of the character. This turns some people off but I found it refreshing.
So at the end of the day, Days Gone is a large open world game with a lot of fun things to do. I have really enjoyed the game as well as the story line. It can be all over the place at times but if you stick with it, it is very good. You can feel the love the Sony Bend put in to this game. This is my first real review so I apologize if it is all over the place. Close
