Development on ‘Gothic Remake’ Has Begun
- Coming to next generation consoles and PC.
- Feedback from the playable demo was overwhelmingly positive.
- THQ Nordic has opened a new studio in Spain.
It was back in December that THQ Nordic released the Gothic Playable Teaser demo on PC via Steam. It was stated as being a way for the developers and publishers to see if there was any interest in consumers to buy a fully realized Gothic. Shortly after, with over 180,000 players having given the Playable Teaser a shot, THQ Nordic received overwhelming feedback. The feedback was 94.8 percent that users were in favor of having this remake be a reality.
The data includes more than 43,000 surveys answered, and over 9000 Steam reviews. Let’s not forget, with all of the positive feedback on Twitter, it was almost a given that there would be a full remake of this 2001 classic RPG. THQ Nordic has released a PDF that breaks down the information, which you can check out here. THQ Nordic really had no choice, and will open up a new studio in Barcelona, Spain to begin development on the Gothic remake. All that’s really known now about this title, is that it’s targeting next generation consoles, and it’s not expected to release in 2020. THQ Nordic themselves had the following to say:
THQ Nordic will establish a new studio based in Barcelona, Spain, and will then assess what players liked and what they want to be different than in the playable teaser. One of the most common mentions was for example the demand for a grittier and less colourful world.
“We are up for the challenge to develop a full Gothic Remake which will stay as faithfully as possible to the original experience and transport the atmospheric world of Gothic into a high quality look and carefully modernizing certain gameplay mechanics.” says Reinhard Pollice Business and Product Development Director at THQ Nordic.
The full Gothic Remake will go into production and will be developed for PC and next gen consoles. There is no release window available yet, but it will not be coming in 2020.

For those who love the original, how do you feel about this remake? I’ve never played a Gothic title, but they look interesting.
