I am just like everyone else in here, a gamer. A gamer who is tired of all the devs pumping out unfinished games. Half of this is our fault, as a community we failed each other we let these AAA company pump games after games. Games that are unfinished that cost $60 and tell you the features that should have been there are available next month in what they call DLC'S and sell you THAT for another $15-35. Dont get me started on now what we call microtransactions..... The ones to blame are the ones that buy it(I'm guilty on buying a couple)

Little did we know about this "slope" 10-15 years ago. When DLC packs got criticised for being held back content, that could have been released in the standard product. At least back then we got more than what we sometimes get now.

It's much more greedy and anti-consumer than that when you look at it. When you look at expansion packs for old games, they usually came out a year after initial release if not more. Meaning the devs created it as an afterthought and were selling it to expand on the existing full game. Games these days come with day one DLC and there have even been cases with physical copies where the DLC's files are on the optical disc itself and paying for it simply unlocks them instead of downloading them from a remote server. They're selling you a product where parts of it are walled off and you have to pay to unlock its full functionality.

If this happened in any other industry, there would be lawsuits up the arse.

The Sims, as you mentioned, had expansion packs that came out maybe twice a year...i'm not totally sure if the CD limitations meant they couldn't squeeze all the content from all the packs onto the original disc...but I think (maybe naively) that back then companies were less cynical and produced extra content based on demand rather than holding back things that could have been included originally. The Sims expansion packs weren't cheap either (at £20/$20 each..) but compare to today, where buying a new wallpaper for your Sims house would probably cost you £3 by itself

The way to solve your problem OP is to stick to old games on physical disc/cartridge, that don't need the internet to boot up. Before mid-00s. It works fine for me, and I don't give a crap about the hyped modern money-drain (legalised theft) games. Buy as many old games as you can whilst you can still get hold of them. You can pick up PS2 games for PENNIES these days - and the entire game is on the disc (radical idea eh!). Same with CDs and DVDs and books... physical media that doesn't rely on the internet or DRM has intrinsic value. When the "online service" ends its game over - we are conditioned to being shaken down for money for literally nothing, because apparently young people now "don't care about owning stuff" ( according to experts who don't even know they're born: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-37873917 ) Hmm... well more fool them, if that's so. Digital collections are worthless. Stop giving your money away for nothing!
