Games are Escapism

This my place of escapism.

I believe in escapism through entertainment and specifically gaming.

When I play games, it’s to get away in my little bubble and disconnect.

I disconnect, from work, family responsibilities, the external world and it’s constant stream of influences.

I do not want agendas shoved in my face when I play games.

I believe I am not alone with this philosophy.

I, too, like games as escapism, mainly to immerse myself in a great (or at least good) story. I do want it to be a complete game, but that is a different topic.

Couldn't agree more brother. I play games to escape the bullshit in my life. Cant stand it when people bring real life shit into my matches.
Can I not just slaughter millions of monsters and daemons in peace.

Games are a great form of escapism from the daily grind etc. Although for me, it's more than just unplugging. I cherish the games that entertain and inspire me by providing something unique to the gaming medium. That sweeping feeling of grandness, when challenges are overcome, the art-direction is stunning and the sound is bumpin'

I tend to enjoy action/adventure games that are subtle, and reveal their grand design after some significant play time. Modern games in that category: Hollow Knight/Ori/Okami + platfromers of my youth, Mario 3, Metroid, Mega Man, Castlevania etc.

Pretty much how I use video games. Why would I want to see and go through the same crap, but in digital form. I want to de-stress and enjoy the peace.

I also use games as escapism. I'm sort of a "stressed" person, for a lot of reasons. When I want to escape (into that wonderful, alternate reality of a good game *whispers FO4*) , I do NOT want to hear some BS about what pronoun to use or outlandish, destructive, history revisions.

I'm in. Will likely never be a big poster but just thought I'd say hi as I responded to these posts.

GamesAreEscapism As long as we stay in a debatable form and non political i think this is an interesting post. I believe that anyone who is on this forum will say that they believe that video games are escapism. Using it to get away from work family responsibilities and so on. One of my favorite things about video is also the connectivity that they bring me to these very things that we are escaping from. It is really whatever your definition of escapism is i guess. Some days i want that grindy solo rpg and other day i want to play a game that requires interacting with others which many online games have gone away from such as World of Warcraft which has made solo play expected in said games when it used to be required to find people to finish a quest.

When agendas are shoved in your face i am not exactly a fan of it. I will say that i wish for devs to have the creative freedom to do as they wish. The other side of that is when devs do so they should not be surprised when their games don't sell. I am all about creative freedom. There is a reason why every single game company doesnt make it though. I like to look at Jeremy's recent on the quartering about dragon age. I love the dragon age series. I may try it unlike Jeremy and i may also not depending on the development on it. I do try to keep an open mind about any form of creativity. If a developer completely ignores history when they have been a historically accurate genre for years than i will drop it.

There is my 2 cents! Interesting Thought on it(if i went political in anyway please let me know!)
