  • Software Engineer, Artist and Media Producer Joins the Battle

    Hello everyone,

I am really glad that this haven exists. As a creator, lover and educator in the wild world of video games, I am extremely passionate about the existence of a website that is free from the confirmation bias and identity injection of video game coverage within media. I hope to see this website succeed as a center for game coverage strictly about games and nothing more, yet nothing less.

That being said, let's get into some things about me. I go by the moniker 'Nanomachine.' If you can tell, it's a reference to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. I am also a fan of the Witcher series, Mass Effect (original trilogy only), Dark Souls franchise and many more. I currently am finishing up my Bachelor's in Computer Science (Software Engineering concentration) and Media Production double major and love to make, write and create content about video games or make video games themselves. I teach college courses on the side in video game development and love to exchange knowledge in any way, shape or form when possible.

I look forward to being an active participant in this site's growth and hope to meet fellow minds who share my ideals and passions during my time here. See you, Space Cowboy.

This may seem like a bit of a tangent, but as someone who is interested in Software Engineering, I was wondering what the college/university courses are like for Software Engineering and Media Production, as well as where you taking these courses(optional).

For software, usually most uni's teach object oriented languages like C# or java and will teach you technique by technique. You start with simple things like print statements, integer value calculations and object creation and use and move into more intermediate things like user interfaces, tree traversal and sorting algorithms. You eventually learn the coding process and then learn the workplace process by working with teams on larger projects over the course of a semester, or over the course of a year. You learn how developers give presentations to investors or non-coding entities by using wording that educates the investor on what type of development process you perform and how long it will take along with figuring out the scope of the software you might be making.

For media production, you learn a lot about photography, editing, video and audio production and graphic art, digital design and more. Think about the skillset a youtuber would need.

Thanks for asking! Hope that generates more interest. If I've confused you, let me know!

Thanks so much. You are much more helpful than a university website. My last question, did you go into either course (especially Media Production) having a lot of experience on the subject?

I did! I was in the military for five years as a mass communication specialist, which consists of all the media production skillsets allowing me to learn a lot prior to beginning my time in uni.

Thank you! I'm interested in game development, so maybe I'll ask in the future
