Hello everyone. I admit to a level of cautious excitement about this place. I have been part of gaming forums in the past that fell apart, not to political problems but immaturity. I'm hoping that the stated cause here will draw people that just want to have real conversations about games and related culture.
I got into gaming honest. I was born in 1983 with an uncle just 8 years older. As soon as I was able to hold a controller I had an Atari VCS joystick in my hand. I clearly remember playing Pitfall and Mouse Trap as a very very young human. My father got me my first console, the NES, for Christmas in 1989. It was probably more for him and the time if I'm honest, but no one else in the family ever really got into it, so in the end it was truly mine after all. So, you see, I never had a chance.
As a young adult I took to collecting classic games. I'm sure there are many here with this in common as well. While I have been trying to shrink the collection over the last 3 years (it got big enough to need it's own room and the arcade machines had to stay in the living room) it is still a source of much pride and joy. The Atari VCS remains my favorite console to both play, and collect. I've been lucky enough to find some uncommon consoles and accessories along the way, and the most important find of it all, a wife that is ok with all this madness. She isn't a gamer, but she gets it.
I have also been into the more social hobby games through the years as well. MTG, VS, WoWTCG, HeroClix, DnD, DnDMinis,.. you get the idea. The local gaming store went a little crazy as I grew out of the average age of the Wednesday night group and for some time now I've been a solo gamer, leaving much of this kind of gaming behind for now.
That should be much more than enough introduction I suppose. I look forward to seeing all of you around.
