Hello!
I know that this doesn't exactly fit in with the theme of the site. But I think with all of the Video Game lovers here it would be a really cool place for
chatting about game development! I am working on a game engine right now and would love to chat with people about it. I also think it would be cool
to help anyone that wants to learn and get ideas with their own game dev projects.
What do you think? Would a section like this fit here?

Well if it's your own thing there is a Self Promo subforum right now

Sorry I did a quick search and didn't find anything, I just have not searched well enough. I am currently contributing to https://excaliburjs.com/
I really think that it has a LOT of promise because it leverages the ease of development you get with Scripting and the power of typescript's OOP.
It is not my engine so I didn't put this in self promotion, but never the less I would love to get more people working on this as it seems like it could be really great in the future. This together with Electron and you will have what seems to the end user like a native application that is built on web tech. I am really excited about this!

It would be wonderful to get creator tools.
I do think that there probably needs to be some moderation around creators though. It seems like something that could easily be abused. For example: when can you begin to post about your project? A lot of enthusiasts begin gaming projects and will talk-it-up, then realize the level of work involved to finish their game and abandon it. Most indie games die on the vine. I don't have hard numbers for this, but I've been in the industry for awhile, and for every indie game that ships, I'd say that 99 die.
So, to make creator tools useful, I think you'd need to be able to prove that your game is actually going to ship. For example: you can't post until you have a working alpha that you can demonstrate to the curators. That would separate most of the games that will never ship. Otherwise, legitimate games will be lost in a flood of pitches for indie games that will never come out.
Maybe have another section for recruiting for GameJams, but then you probably want to have a developer rating. Did a contributor's game ship? Did they pull their weight? Did they cause drama on the team? How are their technical skills? (etc)Last edited by etheras; 12-23-2018, 08:50 PM.

That's a good idea, my game's thread was lost in the flood in the videogames section and I don't want to bump it/repost it as I don't want to spam it.

Maybe down the road, for now, it seems a too niche. We'll see in time!

A game jam section would be cool if the site actually attracts a lot of indie-minded developers.

It has been brought up already and the last response I saw was something like "we're going to do it, but not yet". I'm glad people keep asking as there are quite a few of us here interested in that idea. Have you checked out the selfless promotion section? Lot's of creative people there already. If you don't mind, which engine or your own creation?
