A lot of sites give out "Game of the Year", "Best Graphics", "Best Soundtrack" etc. And game companies do try and court these awards. It gives prestige and exposure in a very crowded industry, and to be able to put an award icon on your game on Steam probably bolsters sales (I don't have the data to back this up, but I imagine it can't hurt).
If ExclusivelyGames is trying to compete with other sites, it might be helpful to try and extend EG's influence by granting awards. Maybe have a USER'S CHOICE and a EDITOR'S CHOICE... to engage the audience, as well as maintaining the prestige of a curated pick. (Though I'd say "Gamer's Choice" has a better ring to it).
You may also be able to court exclusive content, such as event by gamedevs, interviews, demos, beta keys etc, if endorsement from EG becomes coveted in the industry.
At the very least, it will give exclusively gamers a sense that their voices have been heard, which is better than a lot of these other awards.
