We need an off-topic forum

I am adding your suggestion to the rest that we have so far, you're the first one, by the way, who suggests the 'off-topic' in general rather than just "anime" or "Tv" for example.

Nah, I was wrong to make this suggestion. In current year, it will be impossible to stop such topics from descending into nonstop political/ideological debates.

We have moderators to keep everything non-political though. Also, the community here is made of people who don't want to talk about politics with games.

I think people will have the self control to talk about things like books, movies, and pets instead of politics and that the forum moderators will be able to handle anybody who breaks the rules.

Maybe. I feel the pull of politics and ideology in current year is irresistible, even to people like us who don't want it. Also I made a point a while back about potential infiltration from "journalists" (AKA ideologues and political activists who write articles about gamers all being misogynists) who might use an off-topic section to bait or steer a thread into material for their next hit piece on our website.

Also the site might attract the "alt-right". I know nobody really knows what that is or who they are but they might be attracted here due to Jeremy's reputation or whatever. They'd post things that would make good hit piece material for "journalists".

Off topic seems a bog standard thing for any competent forum to have. We should have one absolutely.

I agree, I also think it would help keep people active on the forums, as you don't have to leave to talk about non-gaming topics.

I have so many sites I can go to if I want to discuss anything that would "off topic" for this site. And Damien's further thoughts go right to the heart of what would happen to an "off topic" forum. I saw it on the General Discussion forum at Star City Games. Any particular thread could devolve into open warfare between different ideologies. And that wasn't even targeted by games journalists like this already has been.

I would much rather this one stay true to its original premise. Exclusively Games.

While I'm not opposed to having an off topic section or some kind of meme section, I do agree this forum should continue to be Exclusively Games. If you really want to post something "off-topic" then you should find a creative way to link it to gaming. That would make for a much more interesting read imo.
