The forum is still in it's infancy so i'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and go with inexperience. We also don't know how much, if any direction has been given to them. But yeah i feel you, this is NOT the way this should have been handled.

So many people with poor forum etiquette, but such is the way of things...

I hope you do actually look into it. Cause as far as i can see without an explanation, some mod on a power trip straight up deleted a thread. I can only assume their fee fee's got hurt.

I'm going to take isturbo1984 at their word when they say their post was deleted. My post asking what happened was also deleted (you'll have to take me at my word). Look, that's fine by me if you want to completely purge the offending material from existence, but you should 1. say what the rules are, and, 2. say that someone or some post violated the rules. That happened? Well, not in a new topic, and not as a direct message, so what up?

    .
    This.

We need a way to recognise the staff, if indeed there are any. We need a way to contact mods and admins outside of the report button.

Merging threads is a decent way to de-clutter forums without deleting people's posts, I used to do it all the time back in the day when I modded several vb forums, some orders of magnitudes bigger than this. There would be a notification sent to the thread starter and the offending thread would have a redirect to the merged thread for a short time before being removed from the list of threads.

A structured staff is essential to keep a forum running smoothly, so is transparency in the moderation of the forum. Members must have a way of being notified about thread/post removal/merging and be given a cogent reason.

Stuck/pinned threads in certain sub forums explaining the rules to members about posting duplicate topics is also a good way to avoid these situations. They also give mods a 'go to' thread to point offenders to when merging or deleting a thread.

If the forum continues to grow, which I sincerely hope it does, a mod/admin team is essential to stop it becoming a free for all and a haven for spambots. It's hard enough to combat the spammers with a good team, impossible without one.

Yet somehow I am told that I am wrong when I say this. I'm sure they are great discord mods, but clearly have zero experience when it come to forums.

There are mods here. But all they do is delete posts that make them uncomfortable that aren't violating any rules.

...a mod still hasnt messaged me, btw. and my thread addressing my original issue has also been deleted, btw.

Yes this is EXACTLY what I was talking about. So with all due respect Tonic, what I stated was not false in any way.

Merging threads rather than deleting them is something I've seen work without any toes getting stepped on for a movie forum I frequent.

It's just a part of being on an online forum. We could have a time limit for inactivity of a thread, but that's not gonna be suitable for every thread across the board, and will just make another thread take its place. Bot created threads are probably the only ones that can be killed on the spot without some sort of frustration from some user.

I keep responding to them with roughly the same replies. Can't help myself.

As for the overall topic, if you can link examples we'll be happy to look at them.

    3. What little mod activity we HAVE seen is heading in a very dangerous direction in my opinion. No offense, but memory hole-ing threads with no explanation and closing threads asking about it with people being told to DM instead of asking openly on the forum has a distinct ReSetera like vibe to it. Which is exactly the opposite of what people want. This whole initiative was largely built on being able to speak freely.
