    The spree of reduntant threads

There seems to be an epidemic of redundancy on the forum Someone start s a thread about something, then it gets pushed off the first page after a few days, and then someone new to the forum starts a new thread about the exact same thing.

It is not funny, and causes clutter.

Again this is a criticism of the moderation of the forum. Is it free for all here? Are there actually mods who are supposed to keep law and order? Or no arrangements have been made in that regard yet?

I've seen at least 3 distinct users with "mod" in their signature lines. I've seen a straight up spam post removed (make $$$$ now). I've had one of my posts removed, and I'm ok with it, because I was intentionally being a sh1tdisturber. They made the rules a sticky post. That's all I know about it. They may have decided that merging duplicate threads is beyond their scope. We don't know what's going on in the background and the EG wesbite isn't even officially live yet. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt that they're working hard.

Is there any active Mods at all?
Almost everyday a duplicated thread appears, nothing seems to be done regarding this.

What would be really helpful is having the forum suggest a list of similar threads when you're creating a new thread.

XenForo has an add-on for this feature called Similar Threads Plus.

I'm not aware of anything like this for vBulletin though, maybe someone else does.

Yeah, something I have noticed is that there doesn't seem to be an apparent presence of mods.

They are there, and they do stuff, but we just don't notice it until someone makes a thread complaining about getting their thread deleted.

Personally, I think it would be nice to have a special tag or something that goes on the username of people who are moderators, so we can be comforted by proof they exist.

Keep in mind guys, it is the holidays. Moderators may be slow to handle this stuff because for one, I don't think that there is a large team of mods working the forums and it's also the holidays.

I'm quite sure that as traffic picks up, and more mods are selected, there should be a little more consistency in the management of the forums.

    But so far crickets.

It seems to me that even if they hired forum community managers they're still enjoying their holiday and giving zero fucks about the actual community. Which doesn't speak to much passion in said people. You can't manage a gaming community if you're only in it for the money.

To say the least Jeremy's timing of the launch of the forum seems ill advised at best in retrospect. You can't start a forum and then leave it to it's own devices for a month during the holiday season.
I'd agree. I honestly would like a less poop forum revamp once the whole site is set up. It seems the majority of problems come from the format here. I'd like it to be much more simple as a forum, or something more modern like how reddit functions for relevant threads to stay at the top.

In any event, the biggest issues do seem to be lack of pinned threads and literally 0 moderators, unless they just don't post. I see people claiming they are mods, but why the heck should I believe that? There is nothing about their name tag on posts that tell me they are. As a veteran of the old internet, never trust someone who claims to be a mod if they don't have the appropriate badge for it.

For now the forums are whatever, but if this is the permanent solution I'll probably just quit.

I think changing the "threads per page" suggested by Lars paired with much more (sub)categories could help a lot with overload of duplicate threads. For example there is a category "Video Games" where fall so many topics: different platforms - pc (and various OSes), handful of consoles, mobile; all genres excluding RPG and retro; general topics like game mechanics, game design, game development, recommendations, questions (or should game-related questions be in "Questions & Suggestions" in "General"? that doesn't feel right, not being it in "General Gaming") and tons of other topics.

Some time ago I made a very incomplete list of issues with forum from front-end perspective. I didn't go deeper, because I actually don't even know if this version is supposed to be almost-done ("beta" was mentioned) or if major changes are planned. I hope this clears things up.

From the locked thread you replied in after your colleague already did say pretty much the same.

You make the suggestion to CONTACT YOU, AS A MOD to clear things up and then proceed to say you didn't mean it in a different thread? If you are bothered by everyone on this forum and their mother is reaching out to you on this, maybe don't suggest it? Or word it differently because if you meant only OP would be allowed to contact you for explanation, you should have written so.

At this point, the forum seems in disarray because moderators are in a 'the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing' state because they don't seem to know proper forum etiquette themselves or w/e... It makes the users/visitors feel a need for explanations because none are given.... not really an incentive to stick around as user.
