  • Parting ways with post comments.

Now to clear up any confusion. You reply to a thread. You are able to comment to a user's reply on a thread. I feel as if comments interrupt the flow of a forum post. My main focus is we have the quote feature for a reason. Before in the past, if you wanted to "comment" on a particular user's reply you would quote them and continue the discussion in the fashion.

Edit: I included an image with a post comment example just in case any users are not familiar with the feature.

Comments are an excelent way of keeping the thread on topic whle at the same time replying to some more specific/non topic subject a user has made
Forum about Collector Editions, Limited Editions, Game Collectibles, Statues, OST's

In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very unhappy and has widely been seen as a bad move.

I rather like the feature and wish more forums used it.

I don't even know why we bother with suggestions at this point. This was suggested many weeks ago, of course absolutely no official response from anyone. Hell we don't even know who runs the forum.

MadMummy76 Do we know that they have decided against it though? Without a statement or any updates since the launch of the forum, perhaps the staff are still considering it or just busy working on the main website before updating the forums.

With both topics created about the comment feature i can't see any kind of urgency for the topic. It's not like the proposed change shows people universally for or against it.

I like the comment system just to make my stance clear.

Before implementing a feature or disabling a feature shouldn't the administration make sure that this reflects the broader community consensus? In that way, waiting If a topic gets sufficient traction might bei preferable.

Comment option has always been pretty hit or miss on forums. Where Exclusively Games is concerned, I do find that it can be helpful in the user review section for reviews that are rather long. For instance, say someone decides to break their review down into story, gameplay, graphics, music, each of those getting their own post. Instead of making a new post, a person can always comment on one of those without overly expanding the page (posts are larger than comments even when the contents are the exact same due to how things are designed), this also makes it easier for progressive? (not sure how to call it so going with that) reviews. Say you finish playing through a game, get your review up, then two days later an expansion for the game is released. Instead of making an entirely new topic, you can add your review of the expansion into your topic which helps keep things organized, especially if someone new comes along who hasn't read your review, they can readily read it all right there instead of having to jump between topics in order to read your entire review of the game.

My main issue with comments is that thread notifications don't seem to handle them very well. If I leave a comment on page 2 of a thread while it has 3 pages it would be nice if I'd get separate notification with a link to the specific post if someone else comments on the same post instead of the usual new reply one that'd link to page 3.
