  • What's with comments?

It's a very weird feature, I've never seen it anywhere. What's the point of it? As opposed to simply replying to a post? Commenting on it seems redundant, and you can't even reply properly to comments.
My recommendation: This shit gotta go!

This is to keep the topic from derailing.
You comment on the topic by posting
And you comment on the other's comment by using the feature.

Anyway if you don't like the feature - don't use it, it's not like you're obligated to use it anyway.
But i don't understand the motivation for ruining the day for those who actually simply like and and use this feature.

This is a perfect example of using the comments to reply without making another post just to say a single semi-relatable to the topic's context sentence.

Even Dust will show up after the party to derail the derailment. While comments are new to me, I enjoy the feature as well. It's a good way to keep a convo going and to post a like and say: "Great thoughts!" without having to type a huge reply to say the exact same thing you said in two words. Heh

I like to use it to separate directly talking to the poster vs to the thread itself. But yeah, it's an odd one.

I can easily avoid using it. But I can't keep others from commenting on my posts, which then I cannot reply to. It already happened multiple times, and it's very annoying. I can't reply to it, I can't quote it, and it breaks the timeline of the thread.

MadMummy76 Your inability to quote it is to protect the thread from derailing, because comments usually contain situational reply to the one of the points of the post they're posted under rather than to the orignal post.

See, it's quite handy actually, i can comment on one of the points that you are bringing, exactly under the actual post and without making whole another post just to give a situational answer.

There's usually no point in quoting while replying with the comment because everything is organised in one place.

I can see how having a feature we arn't used to can get annoying but the times be a changing. I have enjoyed using the comments quite a bit and would like to keep them. Difference of opinions is new a bad thing though!

It's kind of odd for a forum. I've never seen it before. But whatever. To each his own. Some will comment. And some will reply.

It really is a good way of keeping the thread as a whole on topic, while still being able to reply to a post with something that might derail the thread. A bigger issue for me is not being able to jump to page 2 or 3 from the main forum, instead having to go into a thread and do it from there.

Unless I've misunderstood, you can use your notifications tab at the top of the page to go directly to the comments that are made on your posts when they're first uploaded by another?
