Let's say I'm having fun with it.
"Women on the frontlines" is something that might be odd at first, but it's pretty easy to ignore. At a few feet distance, it's even hard to tell the difference and there are a few hilarious screams and voice lines from both genders.
The latest controversy with the whole TTK change the community opposed to… it's tricky. It works just fine for some weapons, but not for others, so balancing is still an ongoing issue and some parts of the game are still incomplete or unfinished.
Overall, gun play feels awesome and with limited 3D spotting playing a bit more tactically (read: not just camping or run and gun) feels more rewarding than ever. As mentioned, for some weapons the damage model is off and it feels weird, but if you can look over this (and once they fixed it hopefully), they pretty much nailed it.
The campaign missions are hit or miss, some moments feel bland and stupid, others are great. Just keep in mind so far they're basically missing pretty much all major/popular/stereotypical WW2 scenarios and settings. While the latest/first big update added French countryside as a theater for tank battles and there are maps representing northern Africa and stuff, you won't find D-Day, Midway, Argonne, Stalingrad, or anything like that (yet?).
If you're on the fence and got some spare time over Christmas (and are on Xbox One or PC), I'd suggest just biting the bullet and getting EA Access/Origin Access Premier, which lets you download and play the game all you want for a few bucks during that month. Just make sure to cancel in time. If you enjoy the game, you can get the full game for 10% off on top other price reductions while you're still subbed, making up for that trial money. Also they recently offered 50% discounts for owners of BF4 and BF1, although I'm not sure if that's still a thing.
Oh, and one more thing: Don't let anyone tell you how good or bad the campaign's storytelling is, just based on whether there are Nazis or not. I've read a few "reviews" complaining about how bad the game's story is, because they depict a Nazi as the good guy. Not all Wehrmacht soldiers were Nazis. They were just doing their job (and avoided getting shot). Just like the Wehrmacht officer you've got to play in the campaign.
