How do we combat the new wave of attacks?

The best thing to do is ignore those people. If you don't bother to respond to them, they will eventually get tired of screaming at you and go away.

Right on, man.Originally posted by Zalachai View PostBest way to combat that stance on this forum is just to be good people to each other. I don't care what you believe in in real life, I only care if you are a decent person.

On a personal basis, the worst offense that they can't do anything about yet annoys them greatly is simply ignoring them.
They want to "matter", and in their urge to "matter" they take things that do "matter" and and try to make it a different "matter".
My political stance towards people who desperetaly want their failed attempts at self-recognition to be soothed by people who have better things to do is: Rejection.
(And yes, don't get me wrong, what I meant to say was, that gaming itself is time better spent in comparison to trying to supress a persons (or groups) personal freedom of not giving a damn.)

When I couldn't post on threads I used the browser tools to look at the request the site makes to add your post and the response coming back was a cloudflare captcha request, so I assume they are using that for their CDN (Jeremy mentioned in one of his videos they were setting up a CDN. Either they fixed that captcha issue or have just disabled CDN for now).

If you have not looked at it already go read Linko's original post of the CoC in the News and announcement section. Those rules should go along way towards not feeding the trolls. As for site security, I would suspect that they are working on it as the site is developed, this is still just the beta after all.

It is. Or else it used to be anyway, that's what was stopping people posting on threads.Originally posted by Elmo View PostI'm also hoping that an anti ddosing client like cloudflare is put on this sites frontend to stop bad eggs causing issues to the websites function..

They have their own sites and they can publish whatever they want. The fact that they are talking about Exclusively Games, as well as the reason for the creation of it, can only mean they fear what they can't control. In the spirit of not being like our opponents, we should not fear what we can't control.

My suggestion? Ignore them if their argument is "being non-political is being political". It's the "If you're not with us you're against us" argument, and that one frankly deserves a shrug at most as a response.Originally posted by DM Bluddworth View PostAlready I have seen a new wave of attacks on, “No Politics”, “Games Only”, “We Only Care That You Game”, etc.
I have already seen their attack, “not being political, is being political” or “My identity is not political, but you’re a bigot if you don’t represent me in your gaming”, etc.
The “My identity is not political, but you’re a bigot if you don’t represent me in your gaming” argument is easily defeated by a "how does representing you make a game more fun?". And that way you force those people to meet gamers on their terms: Looking for entertainment rather then issue-pushing. I'm sure this place will catch flak for not being a platform for "inclusiveness" as a goal on it's own. But that's the whole point of this forum anyway - to return the discussion to the core function of games as an art and source of entertainment.

I think the sort of bad eggs we're talking about is quite easy to spot, yes.Originally posted by Elmo View PostDon't shoot me or anything, but it's going a little off topic.
I think this is more about combating waves of unsavoury people access the forum or attacking the site via technical means.
Can we rake it in a bit and get back to maybe forum security and how to figure out who is the bad egg rather than the politics of a bad egg.
Prevention is better than trying to cure.
please don't shoot me, just an observation/opinion. -holds up hands-
I'm always open to constructive criticism.
Or maybe my comprehension is wavering a bit with regards to the direction. It might be the glaring white background embedding itself into my brain.
Also if i am wrong then it could show how easy it is to misinterpret a person opinion, but i'm sure a blatant bad egg will be easy to spot if among good eggs.
Sorry to waffle on

Though regarding the rest of your post - I think prevention in this case is really hard, impossible even. It's not like you can just add a "I'm not a badd egg" recapcha and be covered.
By the way, guys, let's make the bad egg thing a meme. An in-joke of the forum. I think it's great and innocent enough to not be identified by bad eggs as a threat.

Hopefully people realize that the goal is stay out of the fray and to be neutral. There's a time and a place to pick a side and defend your beliefs but this isn't it. This is a place to discuss games why people like them or not and if certain games shine more than others. This is a place to discuss things like graphics, artwork, music and soundtracks, gameplay, platforms, genres, game mechanics, pricing, PCs, consoles, etc. Remember when people accepted gaming for what it is. At it's simplist gaming is about competition and having fun while playing games. I feel like developer studios used to be made up of and were run by gamers. As time has gone on and the cost of producing AAA titles has increased corporate influence has taken more control. Corporations have shareholders and need to be somewhat accountable to them. Perhaps the indie developers are the future. If the success of a game like Destiny for example is tied to a stock price we're in trouble.Last edited by MacSalad; 12-16-2018, 04:53 PM.

it’s a form of fascism. It is meant to stigmatize and then instill fear to be labeled a bigot. I think, as others have already stated here, the best solution is to immediate warn those that “test the waters” with probing, political questions or fake gaming situations to hide behind.Originally posted by EarthCitizen09 View Post
You can't discuss anything with this people, Spanish Inquisition 2018. What you said might not be bigoted, but it has the taint of bigotry… you've been near it…
It's almost like religious fanaticism

Being nice to each other used to be enough once, but now they demand allegiance.Originally posted by Zalachai View PostBest way to combat that stance on this forum is just to be good people to each other. I don't care what you believe in in real life, I only care if you are a decent person.
