That's the whole point of this thread !!! He picked games himself his whole life and when he asks people's opinion you tell him : "Choose yourself !"
But congrats, on your 183rd post ! I bet the 182 previous ones were as good as this one...

Pick around genres you already like and dont let others tell you what you need to play.

All of the games in my list except doom and wolf3d are released 2000 or after so to be fair it's not exactly what the op asked but in my opinion there is no point of leaving out half of the golden age of fps games just because couple of years

Sorry I actually didn't get very far in it because I sucked at it. I remember the opening sequence being f***ing awesome at the time. You will have to pretend you are 30 years ago and haven't seen all of the photo realistic graphics of modern games. Some physicist at a collider gets sucked into a parallel dimension when his experiment goes wrong. That's all I remember. That might not be the correct link sorry

Ok instead of a giant list, which I really liked btw, because most of those games are awesome and you could just slowly work your way through the list, how about this: Out of This World or Another World, depending on what name you know it by. I don't know why Wikipedia doesn't mention C64, because I'm almost certain I played it on that, not PC.

I'm a big fan of Deus Ex on x360 (the first time I've played a Deus Ex game) I beat it at least 15 times, I tried to play the first one and I absolutely couldn't get into it. I think it aged very badly. So, I'm not saying "don't try this game" but just be warned, this game is now very dated even for a Deus Ex fan. But sometimes, that's what you're looking for, I'm playing the very first Medal of Honor on PS1 right now...

DeusEx is definitely a classic, but it is very dated by today's standards. In a way System shock is easier to stomach especially the second, even though it is an older game than deusex. But if you can look past the clunky ham fisted combat of deusex it is probably the best game concept ever created. The modern ones try to mimic some aspects of it, but they are infinitely more simplistic in comparison.

DeusEx is a game where all conspiracy theories (that were popular in the late 90s) are actual facts. But the game's strong point is that it is completely up to the player how to do things in it. Every problem in the game has at least 3-4 possibly more solutions to it. It is a game that I finished over a dozen times, and it still managed to surprise me after all those times.

And while this is not a popular opinion I think the second deusex (invisible war) is good also.

If genre is not important. Then I'd check out Tie Fighter. A classical space sim where you are for a change an up and coming pilot in the empire, a good example of how to do progression in games the right way. eg, not by locking out abilities or functions, you have the same abilities from the start to the end, what changes is the complexity of missions and the ships you get to fly.

Also one of my firm favorites is Raptor: Call of the Shadows which is the best shoot em up imo,

The point is to narrow down the list to a few games worth playing. Posting a mile long wall of text is completely pointless except to those who already know which games are the truly great ones in it. Might as well list every game for good measure then.

Just to motivate you a little bit more :
To my knowledge, Omikron The Nomad Soul is the only game that found a way to link the player with the character. It's not a spoiler, that's literally in the very first lines of dialogue, you, the player are immediately facing a video game character who asks you to transfer your soul into his body to solve his own murder (basically). The game acknowledge you're a foreign soul while still taking itself seriously : their world is as real as ours from the characters' point of view. Then, you end up in a futuristic city which, for the time, can be considered an open world. You'll see a lot of very different places, and there's a touch of magic/demonic stuff in this game and despite being futuristic, it works very well.

The music has been made by Reeve Gabrels and David Bowie and it is something ! I'm not a fan of that kind of music, but it gives a soul to this game.

This game is deep, but not overwhelming. And if you want to learn more about the game, there are newspapers, video tapes flyers for concerts... Hmmmm I wonder if you show up at the place the flyer tells you to, you'd actually see a concert... Who knows

This game will make you realize two things : David Cage isn't only good for making interactive movies (if you like what he does of course) and what we've missed because he decided to stop making regular video games... Quantic Dream could have been a CDPR or a Bethesda (pre-fallout 4)

Jokes aside, Return to Caste Wolfenstein would be my advice too. The game is still pretty good looking, plays really well, some levels are a bit off (IMO), but that's definitely a great game that you will enjoy.

There is Omikron The Nomad Soul, the very first David Cage game, but don't expect anything close to what he has made lately. This is a steampunk adventure game, with touches of FPS and fighting as well as RPG mechanics. This game is a gem. In my top 5 best games of all time.
Omikron sounds like it might be right up my alley then, especially if it is in your top 5. I'll give it a look. Its fine on the Wolfenstein thing. I'm not big on FPS if it is all realistic stuff, I think I like the stuff that breaks the mold and goes sci-fi. Though I admit I've never played any wolfenstein games period so I'll at least see if its my style. Which reminds me I need to play the new Doom games eventually out of sheer obligation.
