I beat Ghosts and Goblins as a kid and I have absolutely no idea how I did it. I can barely play the game now without dying every few moments. Young me was far more talented than older me. That little bugger.

    Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts

I have no idea how i beat this game about 10 years ago, played it a few days ago couldn't get past stage 4.
I remember when you get to the end for the first time and you get sent back to the first level again and have to start all over.
    The game is evil incarnate

Snow Bros 2 on SEGA Millenium, I've spent from 3 to 5 hours to finish a single perfect run without getting hit or dying. It took me around one month to learn all the levels, boss mechanics, to find all invisible apples and pancakes.

I guess that I'm still technically a kid but WarioLand for the Gameboy Advanced/Color was one of the first platformers I had ever played when I was younger and I beat it like nothing. Flash forward to today and I get murdered on an auto-scroll level that I can't remember beating back then.

When I was a kid, I could literally speedrun Metroid on NES like nothing. Now, I can't beat it at all. Shout out to near 40 year old reflexes I guess... lol

Like Mr robot above said old fighting games are so much harder than new ones, I remember playing mortal kombat and street fighter turbo via emulator and being so gutted with my performance, seems as though difficulty has been toned down these days

    Mortal Kombat.

I genuinely have no idea how I did to beat that game on SEGA Genesis. Nowdays, I can't even past the first fighter at the easiest difficulty ! What happened ! Was I a genius back then ? It's incredible how hard it is. I think newer games made me less reactive since it's becoming too easy.

I beat Superman for the Atari 2600 in 51 seconds. No clue anymore how I managed that.

One magical evening in the late 80's, I sat down and beat Platoon (NES); something I had never come close to doing, and never came close to doing again.

Warlock. I rented it three times and managed to beat it over and over when I was in my teens. I load it up now and can't finish the second stage...can make it to the third if I'm lucky.
