The MAME was costly to build. I did it 10 years ago, it would be a little cheaper now. If nothing else RaspbrryPi saves you having to put a full PC of some kind in there.

The DK Jr machine was a crazy grab. I walked into a classic game store that was selling some of their arcade machines. I had been there often and had spent a good chunk of change in there, they knew me. The owner says "you should take that DK Jr machine home.", I said, "I'll give you $200" a little less than 1/3 the asking price, he took the deal. I just had to get it out of the store that day. I called a friend with a truck and that was that.

The console I have was built for me a long time ago. I have since learned a lot about electronics and could do it now. There was a lack of documentation for this project on the internet when I was looking to get/build the console myself. You kind of have to be able to read electronic schematics at least a little, and you need to be comfortable soldering to build one. If you can do those things you can build the console without much trouble.

Got myself two MVS (MV1-FS) boards a few years back. I'm still planning on building a cabinet for one (as I'm unable to find an original one over here) and consolize the other in a reversible manner.

I'm also still looking for a Raiden DX board but was unable to find any good deals…

Thanks for the input. Man, that 4p x-man game was hype! My friends and I played the shit outta that cab. There was that game + the Simpsons and AvP by Capcom in my local scene - good times!

I'm a shmup fanatic! Areo Fighters, R-TYPE, Pulstar, Raiden, Galaga you name it I played it. Fighting games too: Darkstalkers, MK, SF, Samurai Showdown - all bombs!

I'm getting a rasberry pi soon. Keep the dream alive!

    Keep the dream alive!!!

Only boards, don’t have the space for whole cabinets, I find them broken boards and I try to fix them some minor repairs other totally dead beyond repair, also check ROM data some times roms are corrupted and that’s the whole problem stuff like that

Oh, I also have a consolized Neo Geo MVS. It's a pretty cool custom console that plays the MVS carts from the big red cabs Neo Geo used for the multi game units. Many many fighting games there, and things like Metal Slug, and you aren't playing an arcade perfect port, you're playing the arcade game. It's pretty sweet.

I've heard mixed things. The Street Fighter one was audio issues (stereo audio being mixed incorrectly down to mono), so you only hear one side of the games sound fx and music, and there's been some reports of them having graphical issues. They aren't terrible. But $350 is too much for them. If you can get one for under that, then sure.

You CAN mod it to use a raspberry pi3 or a pc or something else. But you've got to buy a LCD video controller board and a few other accessories. Nemesis Prime on youtube and a few others have full breakdown tutorials on what you need and how to set it all up.

HUGE huge huuuuuuuuge fan of arcade titles. Boards and cabs. I have a Mortal Kombat 1 cab that I'm currently restoring and a Konami X-Men 4-player that my brother in law is working on fixing the monitor for me. He has a pretty extensive collection of boards. Sadly I only have 3 or 4. Most of the games I want to own are hard to find or prohibitively expensive.

I'm going to make the MK cab run the first 3 NK games (through a jamma switcher), and the X-Men cab I may try to find a copy of the 2 TMNT Konami games as well. I'll prob skip simpsons since my brother in law owns that cab and I can just go to his place to play.

But oh baby. I love me some arcade hardware. My dream is to own a couple of japanese candy style cabs along with the few american cabs I've already got.. Sega Blast City, Vewlix, etc. Love those style cabs. Games....there's just too many to name. But I love beat'em ups like Final Fight and AVP, most SHMUPS and Fighters, pinball. You name it. Neo-Geo, Naomi, Atomiswave...I LOVE IT ALLLLLLL!

In my city there used to be a coin operated game auction as operators wanted to dump old stock. Not sure if it's still running. Not sure if there's something similar where you are.

Arcade games/pcbs is pretty hardcore. If I had a big enough garabge I'd love to start collecting those kind of things, or at least a few choice titles.

Do you collect just the boards or entire cabinets? If just the boards, what do you do with them? Try to get them running in some sort of rig or extract the ROM data?
