The Last of Us, hands down. Few games have ever made me cry, but only one game managed to do it even when I ABSOLUTELY KNEW what was coming. Still wasn't prepared for it. Plays like a dream, punishing survival horror gameplay with a more actiony bent, incredibly music and voice acting, and one of the few games where I actually enjoyed the online multiplayer.

Personally I'd go with Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. Mostly because of nostalgia. It was the only video game my dad and I played together when I was a little kid....(rest his soul, cancer got him last year
)

Old Retro? SNES should be ok.
Genghis Khan II Clan of the Gray Wolf!
I feel like I'm the only person that has ever played it when people talk about best games. I played this more than the Final Fantasy games and Ogre Battle and Liberty or Death. I liked it a lot though I don't know what I think of it now if I played it. I can only vouch for my past self as liking it a lot.

Completely agree with this. I never did finish Suikoden II but for some reason or another I did finish 4, 5 and Tierkreis. I have this weird issue where if I finish 2 I'll be sad that the journey comes to an end. If not that, I'd throw in Chrono Trigger.

Thief the Dark Project (NOT the gold version) is the definitive answer for me, original deus ex is up there somewhere and a bit below that is gta:sa and hl2

Suikoden II hands down.
That said, I have a strong bias towards JRPGs.
If I venture outside of the genre I would easily go with Super Mario Bros 3. Followed by The Legend of Zelda.

Baldur's Gate 2.
Maybe the mods helped it even more, but i consider it the "Iliad" of virtual RPGs.

DOOM, hands down one of the most important games ever made. Hell at one point it was installed on more computers then windows.....let that sink in. That game was known by everyone, gamers and non-gamers world wide and I can still play it and have fun 25 YEARS later. Good games stand out from the crowd, Great games create the roads good games follow.
