Didn't really bother watching it, though the sonicfox thing did put a bad taste in my mouth for non-gaming reasons which I won't get into. I mean, I get that he was excited but show a little professionalism, like a good little professional gamer? or is that too much of an ask...

As Mr.Disco said, it was pretty lukewarm this year in terms of games, though i think it's especially true on the AAA side of things.

Last year's GA was entertaining but this years' edition was just lukewarm.

There were close to none reveals. Then again, the whole year was lukewarm for gaming in general.

Sure there was RDR and GOW but I personally couldn't care less for triple A games these days.

I think this is pretty common for commercialised long form content like award shows. People don't have the time or inclination to sit through it and Youtubers step in to give you what you actually wanted from the show without having to sit through the stuff that makes them money. Says a lot about why the gaming community leans on Youtube so much.

Joker in Smash I guess, but overall is was a pretty bad show. I watched Rerez's Hot Take review of it and honestly it gave me all information watching teh show itself gave me, without the cringe and fillers, so next year I'll just watch that.

The Outer Worlds for sure! It looks like a quirky, fun interstellar romp. I am really looking forward to playing it!

The Game Awards weren't that bad this time around. I'm super hyped for MK 11 and Crash Team Racing because those are two game series I grew up playing.

If this is the for reals Geoff then thanks for putting yourself out there with the effort man. In this day and age you'll catch a lot of heat for trying things and figuring things out on your way up but just know that there's plenty of people that can see where it's going and appreciate it

I don't think Smash is for me to be honest. I understand the technical depth of the mechanics and also the mechanical depth of the movesets, wavedashing, etc. And still, the theming is very disconnected from my preferences. I feel like it's a game for people that hold up Zelda / Mario / NES / SNES games up as high marks of gaming that should be aspired to. Being a PC guy at that time meant that I enjoyed the NES / SNES but the PC always won out so my preferences are much more based around the themes and aesthetics of Diablo, Unreal, Infinity Engine games, etc.

In short, I just can't get into a game that looks the way Smash does. Also, fighting games are in a great place in terms of variety so I don't feel like I'm missing out. That plays a part as well.

I feel the same way. I love Nintendo, and I think they make some excellent games, but Smash Bros. has just never done it for me. Maybe it's because I don't like fighting games in general. I'm not saying I'll never pick up Ultimate, but I'm not excited for it in any way.

    2 Things:

    1. Celeste Should have won the Soundtrack Award, not RDR2 imo

    2. Sakarai Is beyond God status for putting The Joker from Persona 5 as DLC 1 cause I honestly would not mind paying 10 dollars for it

other than that it was pretty cool for the most part for me at least

I think that's a pretty common reaction. I still cringe when it happens and I've seen it a few dozen times now. Don't think I'll ever get used to that level of OTT extravagance. Good on him for getting the award, he truly is a star player. Proficient in multiple types of games as well which is rare and a true rival for the Japanese scene in DBFZ which is even more surprising.

I think you're not the only one there mate. Lots of people on Twitter feeling the same way. I'm not much of a hiphop / rap fan - I much prefer other genres but I thought it was pretty inoffensive. Nothing will ever top Killer Instinct's theme. That game's music is godlike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wHVXaQRuFU. Mick Gordon da gawd.

Man I am so ready for this. I came to fighting games a bit too late to join in on MKX and the PC release wasn't great anyway. I'm hoping this time around the PC will have a thriving community!
I was/am excited for it, but the music in the trailer ruined iiiiiiiiit~

It literally would've been better without any music
