    Some videos about this mess.

The first 2 are from Leonard French, your favorite copyright attorney, on his YouTube channel, Lawful Masses with Leonard French.

Star Control: Ur-Quan Masters of Lawsuits (Part 1)
Star Control: Ur-Quan Masters of Lawsuits (Part 2)

A less in depth look at the lawsuit.
3 videos from Lior Leser, Esq on his YouTube channel YouTuber Law.

Star Control Lawsuit: Who Has the Right to This Classic Game? (Part 1)
Star Control Lawsuit (part 2): Reiche and Fords Respond to Stardock
Star Control Lawsuit: I hear from Brad, Fred & Paul (part 3)

I got to say from what I watched it looks like Stardock's CEO, Brad Wardell, is a scumbag but again that's up to the court to decide.

Anyone here watch Rekieta Law on YouTube? I thought he might be interested in making a video about this but there seems to be no way to contact the guy.

The legal documents in the Lawful Masses with Leonard French video present a different picture of this saga than what you portray.

    "Aye, there's the rub,"
The creators claim that their deal for the rights had expired.
If it had expired than the seller of said trademark had no right to sell it and the buyer has no rights to use it.
And that is the crux. Did the seller own those rights?

I find it hard to believe your only interest is that the correct precedent be set.
There's a nagging thought in the back of my mind that your are:
    a. a plaintiff or represent the plaintiff
    b. you're a significant financial backer looking at losing lots of money
    c. just a fanboy hoping Star Control: Origins senpai notices.

Like I said before, I'll wait for the courts to render a judgement and not jump to one.

Yes, my dog is the precedent this would set if a developer that buys a trademark is then not allowed to actually use it because of “infringement” on tropes that everyone uses. I encourage you to read up on the history here. Stardock reaches out to the original creators to see if they wanted to be involved, and they declined. Setting legal interpretation aside, this strikes me as sour grapes, especially with the questionable timing of New Year’s Eve and the end of the Stean and GOG sales.

I'll leave copyright law to the professionals and not rely on random franchise fans or anyone party to the lawsuit for interpretation of the law.

Just curious but you got a dog in this fight?

Scroll to the bottom of this for what they are claiming infringed. The problem is that essentially none of that is able to be copyrighted. They're taking credit for hyperspace for God's sake.

edit: I attached the image so you don't have to visit the link.

    edit2: I've added Stardock's unofficial response.

NicheGamer is not a source I trust for factual interpretation of US copyright law as applied to this.
His take on what is and isn't fact doesn't square with the facts as presented in the legal documents of Stardock's Brad Wardell seeking an injunction for relief from DMCA claim.

I'll wait for this to work it way through the courts.

    Seems relevant.

I think you misread the story. The guys filing DMCA take down notices in bad faith are owned by Activision. The developer that actually made the new game is whom I am supporting.

What is the incentive of supporting this developer in particular? They are owned by Activation and are being taken care of just fine.
