  • Activision Pulls All Transformers Titles Off of Steam.

I was curious about the War for Cybertron games and when I wanted to check the price (I buy games as series/bundles) I couldn't find 'em.
Its very depressing considering those games look amazing and were made with true love for Transformers.

    Oh well, Activision being Activision.

Piracy is going further and further underground these days. You're either in good on some private tracker or you're basically playing legal Russian roulette hoping that the next torrent you grab isn't going to blow up in your face in a six-figure lawsuit down the road. You'll pay out the ass eventually.

Which is part of the problem with the modern internet. Rampant abuse of copyrights has corrupted everything, from YouTube to game modding. It's been weaponized on YouTube to silence creators with the wrong opinion, while everyone else has bought into the notion of intellectual property so completely that fucking memes are being watermarked, because the notion somebody else is earning likes on something you allegedly made to go viral is unacceptable, for some reason.

Thankfully, it is in Valve's best interest to not pull copies of games from their personal computers. No longer offering a product is effectively the same in a digital storefront as it is in a physical one. In both cases, you can't get it from the original manufacturer. Now on the secondhand market, this is a tad different, but there is no reason why you can't transfer unused codes around (at least on steam) and there is also no reason why we won't find ourselves used to being able to transfer "permissions" for games in the future in our storefronts after one decides to allow such a feature to get a competitive advantage and it eventually becomes a standard feature.

That's clearly not what he meant though. He was saying don't buy digital. Because honestly with Steam this method is pointless. Even if the game is removed from sale you can still install it if you bought it. this doesn't solve the problem of it no longer being available for sale. I own and can play plenty of delisted games.

Honest, This is really a bigger problem for consoles that don't have backwards compatibility with the possible future of online support going down entirely.

Yeah I don't think they can invalidate keys that have already been given to third party sellers. Those keys are technically already paid for.

Apparently buying the game on Amazon still works, from what I seen people were able to redeem it despite the games being delisted. Most likely steam still has the game somewhere on there servers because they have to allow people who previously bought it to be able to redownload it.

This is a damn shame. I remember playing- what I think was- War For Cybertron on a crappy office laptop my dad gave to me a few years ago. It was a choppy 20 fps but I loved it. Real shame I can't get the others now that I feel like playing them again.

Also I agree, the internet itself is great, its people who are trying to stop you from using it who aren't. If you are in China the internet probably doesn't seem all that amazing and rather cumbersome to use.

This is one reason I appreciate people who break DRM on games and preserve them as well as physical games. They both preserve the media. It is nice to just own games. My friend for example has that scott pilgram side scrolling beat em up that you can't buy anymore anywhere on his PS3, which sucks because it was a good game. Probably makes his PS3 valuable, I don't really know. But if not for people buying physical games or ripping the files and keeping them there would be a few games lost to time. Same issue with early Doctor Who Episodes, the BBC were idiots and just destroyed a lot film. In the USA at least the Library of Congress exists to preserve lots of old stuff too.

Anyhow. It is possible that a new agreement could be hammered out and the games may return for purchase. Until then I'd say try to find used copies on ebay. If you exchange data with your favorite buddies over the internet that is an option too.
TPB was taken down years ago and then many many mirrors immediatly sprang back up, like with every torrent site. It's not as good as it once was, but that just means you have to look a little bit harder. You can find anything with enough perseverance. I mainly just say The Pirate Bay as a shorthand for all torrent sites.

The BBC Doctor Who thing is even worse than simply losing old episodes. Because those old episodes were paid for by the Brittish tax payers. They don't actually belong to the BBC for them to write over. If not legally then certainly morally.
