Bungie was private studio since they split with MS 10-12 years ago, they are also owners of Destiny IP Activision/Blizzard have only a publishing rights. Wee will see if Bungie can make without the publsher...fingers crossed for them

With all that has happened lately, Activision really is in dire straits. Their list of successful IPs is shrinking, and they have little to no innovation left. It will be fun watching that burning ship sink, I just wish they didn't have to take Blizzard with them. Oh well, that's Karma for you.Last edited by Saskia; 01-11-2019, 10:08 AM.

In the atmosphere we have right now, only results and actions matter. It means nothing until they prove there is a different with their products.

I bet you very little is gonna change. Why change the formula when it's raked in so much cash for the last five years?
Apparently there's a game in the works called Matter for which Bungie has filed a new trademark... but in June they received a $100 million investment from and partnered up with a Chinese publisher called NetEase who specializes in online games like WoW, Star Craft 2, Overwatch, as well as mobile games in the Chinese market. Who knows what that could mean for the future of Destiny and the potentially new game.
I'm susceptible to tin-foil hat theories, though.

At the moment I am elated at these developments, however, I will also remain very guarded. The main reasons are due to the fact that Bungie pre-Activision and Bungie post-Activision are very different companies. I followed the interviews of Marty O’Donnell and the comments made by former Bungie employees like Joseph Staten about how they became a very divided company and unfortunately the people that fired Marty won out in that power struggle (even though Marty broke them off legally and won in court).
I’m not sure how there relationship with NetEase will play out since they simply could be a N/P on the books making interest on their investment into Bungie for the purposes of raising capital for future and current projects. Not sure if NetEase has an ownership interest in the company at this time.
The things I hope to happen first is Bungie to clean house in a sense. Activision created a mindset that divided the company and more than likely created a lot of toxicity. When that happens in the corporate world people stop talking to each other and start using words like “the other side” which can create a lot of friction between departments and people. I hope Bungie will use this momentum to take the opportunity to apply the anti-venom from that toxic Activision culture in order to detox. Teamwork makes the Dream work.
Next, I hope they continue to evolve the game to something they’re proud to put out into the market as they move forward. What inspired a lot of people to go and work for Bungie was their excitement from Halo. The real “Space Magic” is a passionate player base that is active and foaming at the bit for content that’s engaging and as Steve Cotton would say “it has to be fun the 100th, 200th, and 1000th time...as he weeps at his desk”. I bring up Steve because he was a frontman for the Forsaken DLC and is a Grizzled Ancient at this point. More importantly its about having fun and I can only imagine how much fun was sucked out when the forums and newest updates made people cringe each morning. Hopefully Bungie employee lunches will be a bit more positive and hopeful than bitching about “they want what now... when?... Oh f***?”.
Regardless, enjoying this at the moment, but keeping an eye out none the less.
Side note: I would love for them to reboot the in-office Podcast. Podcasts are big now, more so than 10 years ago, so get that rolling again and have fun with it. Good tool to get people talking again.Last edited by The Chosen One; 01-11-2019, 07:39 AM.

I'm hoping for longer story content, I like most of the mini-expansions but the story of each one was just too short. Almost like they got rid of the middle act. Even Awoken was oddly paced.

I am cautiously optimistic. This should mean only good things.
The microtransactions should be a little less aggressive from now on at the very least. Anything else would just be a guess. Maybe more frequent sandbox updates? I can only hope.

I'm not sure this is actually going to change anything, they have gotten the taste of sweet sweet loot boxes. I don't think we will really able to tell till the 3rd Destiny game comes out.

Thank goodness. I hope that Bungie can get back on their feet and continue the current trend of at least TRYING to produce better content for their game(s).
Fuck Activision. I couldn't be happier about this.
