EA Vancouver open world Star Wars game cancelled

"It appears that Electronic Arts has cancelled its open-world Star Wars game. This Star Wars game was being developed by EA Vancouver and was meant to be a re-imagination of the cancelled single-player adventure Star Wars game that Visceral Games was working on and was cancelled in 2017.

Electronic Arts has not made any official statement about the cancellation of the open-world Star Wars game but Kotaku claims that three people familiar with goings-on at the company have confirmed to it that this Star Wars game is no more."

EA and Disney couple made form hell...

Doesn't have to be EA executives. Could be some disgruntled NPC working at their studio, or a marketing firm thinking they've got a bright new idea. Knowing the gaming "journos" it could just be one of them either making it up wholecloth as they are wont to do, or taking anonymous unsubstantiated sources at face value because it fits in with their agenda... As they are also wont to do.

I like the way you think...

But sadly I think EA executives are about as clever as a cardboard box...which is an insult to cardboard boxes.

EA cancelling a game means it wasn't exploitative and generic enough, despite being scum EA can make some pretty good games when they put the effort, so let's not just jump to "Eh, it would be garbage anyway". It is a pretty big loss for people who have been craving for new Star Wars games, but it only serves to reinforce why Disney should kill their exclusivity deal, so there are at least some good news.

Honestly glad this game was scrapped. Without Amy Hennig and EA's shit business practices this game was all but guaranteed to be awful

I'm no EA fan, but they seem to be changing the way they handle games after so many backlashes in the recent past. I don't own the newest Battlefield (and I would never buy it after how they treated the fans), but isn't all the DLC free? Same with Anthem - all the post release content is completely free and there are no lootboxes.
For all we know the game never existed at all and this is just an elaborate marketing ploy ala the new Picard Star Trek series.

I'm just waiting for the day that EA files for bankruptcy at this point to be honest.

I'm going to share my opinion here. I hope I'm wrong, but I think things will not improve for Star Wars games. Not for a while, anyway. We already know Disney doesn't care about Star Wars (they actually seem to hate it), so if they fire EA, I don't think they'll search for a company that will respect the IP either. Well, if they were worried about that, they wouldn't have hired EA in the first place...

I see this being the end of Disney allowing EA to ruin the license but at the same time were talking about the same people that pretty much stole money from a YouTube artist just because he made a better short film then they could produce. Is this bad news? In all honesty probably not. Is it disappointing yes. Only for the opportunity to dive deeper into the alternate reality of Star Wars.

It amazes me that a company with EA's resouces and talent/studios under their belt have only managed released two online shooters in the last 5 years or so based on a franchise that has an almost insurmountable wealth of narrative to explore and take advantage of.

Incredible, and somewhat laughable, when you think about it.

What are the betting odds of Disney NOT refusing to renew contract rights with EA?

I didn’t even know this game was in development but tbh I don’t want Disney to be responsible for anything else. They’ve done enough damage. Sell the rights to someone who cares about the franchise. Then make a good game when the EU is at least partially restored and the franchise is respected again.

Rather have no Star Wars game, then another money grabbing, half baked one. After Battlefront 2, I stopped looking forward to EA Star Wars games, and started looking forward to EA losing the license.
