Cyberpunk 2077 - Excited or Meh?

I would be very interested to know what other RPG enthusiasts thoughts are on the forthcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game from CD-Projekt Red.

My hot take: the fact that it's going to be first-person only is almost certainly a deal breaker for me. Not only do I have no interest in first person games, they make me feel sick. I never get travel sick - car, plane, train, boat - no problems at all.

But FP games just make me nauseous. Changing the field of view does nothing. I even felt sick after playing Uncharted Lost Legacy after ten minutes. That's a third person game. I switched off the motion blur completely and was fine after that.

I'll be honest, I'm not really a fan of the whole dystopian future thing. I absolutely adore Philip K Dick books, for example, but his characters and plots are generally second rate in my opinion. What Dick REALLY excels at is taking a world and making it implode in on itself, absolutely breaking your mind in the process. I thought he did this especially well in Ubik and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch and if you haven't read any of these books then read Valis as well, because it's completely batshit insane and you will thank me for it later.

But I digress. I was probably about a 7/10 interest in this game when I thought it would be a third person like Witcher. Mike Pondsmith seems like an incredibly cool guy, I am sure that CD-Project will do a great job and I understand that the tabletop game is amazing.

But as I said, barring a miracle, a first person shooter will not work for me, and I don't really have any interest in that genre anyway.

I REALLY hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Are you excited for this game? Or do you think you will be disappointed as it's not going to be what you thought it might be?

Meh, so over the cyberpunk dystopian aesthetic. It was cute in Far Cry Blood Dragon but now its just so played out and old; I personally don't care for such a theme. That and I really don't care or like far future things such as Bladerunner, synthwave or anything else in that vein period. Cyberpunk 2077 did nothing to convince me so far. The whole tabletop RPG talks around it scare me too considering those are WAAAY too complicated for me to grasp (I'm a stupid, twitchy, trigger-happy shooter guy after all)

I want to be excited, but I think the Witcher series are the most overrated games ever. I couldn't finish any of them. And that makes me quite apprehensive about this, no matter how much I love the genre.

I love FPS games and while I've only played 30 hours of the witcher 3 I loved it so I'm pretty hyped to have a fun time with cyberpunk. I've never played any of the boardgames but the gameplay looks great and Pondsmith seems genuine enough

"Assassin's Creed Odyssey" is a pretty good open world Action RPG.

Nothing against the game, but it doesn't look like my cup of tea.

As an RPG fan, I only have a few options open to me -

BioWare (No thanks as a main contender anymore). Bethesda (seems to be okay, except Fallout 76, I was surprised), and CD Project Red.

With the abysmal performance from BioWare as of late, I’ll play CyberPunk 2077 to see how it is. I don’t get the first person stuff you seem to have. I even played the original Doom and I had fun with it.

To each their own, I want to see where they take this sci-fi world.

I've always been a huge cyberpunk fan in general. I also adore any FPS that empowers me to build the character I want to build and play the way I want to play. That being said, I pretty much have a meh reaction to every game until it launches and I play it (or at least see some reviews and videos). I was never one to get on hype trains. If it's good, fantastic. If it's disappointing, I'll play other things... I sure hope this game is great though, it seems right up my alley!

Definitely excited. If that trailer is telling even half the truth of how this game will end up being, I'm hyped as sh*t! I'm a big fan of anything cyberpunk.

I'm excited for a Cyberpunk inspired game that is not 100% grungy and dark, that's what got me so invested in Shadowrun: Returns. It had its dark/dirty environments but also the light-hearted colourful "Human" moments. I am a very story driven gamer and to have one of the most diverse storytellers working on a genera that I have been invested in from books to tabletop games since I was small. it is exciting, to say the least.
