The RPG sub forum has become a favorite of mine on this site just because of all the interesting perspectives of the genre that doesn't end up being a dumpster fire. To answer the question, I don't know if anyone else would look at this as an RPG but when I was a kid I had the pokemon trading card game on Gameboy. That game was fun, didn't beat it because I remember I got absolutely destroyed by the elite four and just never finished it.

What? I'm not a serial killer! You're a serial killer! THAT GUY DIED ON ACCIDENT! He just... fell down the stairs and straight into a knife. It's funny how that keeps happening all the time, it was totally also what happened to the lady last week.
Joking aside.
I don't think it should be to surprising that there is a large fan base around RPG's, the popularity of them has risen in later years?
My favorites... oh boy. You want the long list?
Well...
Xenoblade
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII
Ni No Kuni
Nier Automata
Persona 4
Persona 5
The World ends with you
Tales of the Abyss
Undertale
Kingdom Hearts
Those I think covers my favorites.
Then I naturally also played Xenoblade 2, most other "Tales of." games, the paper mario games, Dragon Age and... oodles of others.
Heh, but yeah as you can see I am mainly a J-rpg'er.
I think though that's very normal, women for some reason tends to be more attracted to JRPG's, I guess I do like how whimisical and fantastical many of them are while Western RPG's tends to be more grounded and more "Realistic." ..... kind of... they are not as... Animated?
