Not true. RPGs have been part of of the video game industry for over 40 years and they gameplay genre has been honed to a razor tip. They just pplay differently and feel differently than Action/Adventure games. Those gameplay attributes you dub "not much more" than those akin to the A/A genre are what set the games apart. In the end, you can crunch numbers and deem all Adventure games RPGs or use it as an excuse to pretend there is no such thing as a real RPG.--But again, it is a genre that has been defined by its gameplay for years. You cant just take it all back and pretend it doesnt mean anything, lol."You can take the politics out of the forums, but you can't take the snowflakes out of the internet "

I didn't say all, I said few are genuine role playing. A lot that fall into the genre are Pseudo-role playing games at best. I guess it depends which angle you're coming from. I grew up playing table top RPGs, so I personally don't think a lot of video games truly qualify as "role playing games".
Also I never said action-adventure games, which is a different sub genre altogether, I said adventure games.Last edited by Gemini73; 01-23-2019, 08:44 AM.

Yea I agree monster hunter is not a rpg. Companies seem to think that by throwing in stuff like a level up system, loot, and so called quests that are not true quests make it a rpg. Yet being a "role playing game" requires much more in terms of character freedom. With feedom being a core theme. Freedom to again make your own character, freedom in approaches to quests, freedom in which quest ending you want etc. Pillars of eternity is a good example of all of this just to name one.
