  • Dragon Age Inquisition - Gripes and Compliments

Ive just recently gotten back into the game, now that i have come back to it, mainly because i just want to finish the game. I played Origins many many moons ago and absolutely loved it. It was the first game that i knew of besides Mass Effect that you could romance your party members ( i was a young boy ) and i loved that. but then DA2 came out, and it was absolutely horrible, just soo bad, i couldnt even play it. I then years later got Inquisition and i put it down for some reason, mainly i think because i made the switch to ps4 from xbox. Now that i have picked it up again i remember why i didnt immediately get back into it. The story line is alright nothing too special. ( im only 100 hours in,) my only complaint really is the combat. especially with the archer, you just hold the fire button down, and press skill buttons after they time back in, but i restarted the game, this time as a mage, and its much more fun to play with. I also like that the game is long. It would be cool if you could do more editing and building to your main castle. ( not sure if there is another one to work on after the 2nd change in locations )

anywho, id like to hear some thoughts on the game from you all. or even any tips or tricks to further enjoy the game.

I loved Dragon Age 2, it is my favorite game in the series. You're not some "chosen one", you're just Hawke, trying to make a life for herself and becoming the coolest person in Kirkwall in the process. Yes, the reused assets was a little annoying, but the companions and relationships are the best in the series. I get so terribly sick of every Bioware game making you the chosen savior of mankind - it's an overused trope.

Inquisition was okay but the world is mostly empty, with the vast majority of side missions just being fetch quests. While the world looks beautiful, there's nothing to discover, nothing to make it feel interesting and alive, aside from the main story and the couple featured side quests. I didn't care for the combat, either, though mostly because foes can just wander out of melee range and you might be swinging at air and hitting nothing because they took a step back and your character is too dumb to close the distance on its own. The combat in DA2 was much better in this regard.

I did like the court scene, though, as it was a nice change of pace that didn't involve the annoying Fade, which feels like them beating a horse nobody likes. I also enjoyed some of the grand scenes, such as the attack on X and the singing scene in the survivor camp.

hmm, maybe ill give DA 2 another shot sometime. i just remember when playing it, that i just couldnt get immersed at all. Origins is definitely my favorite. i really liked that one. DA I is repatative that i admit. honestly im finding it difficult to keep going. But yeah. im glad im not doing fade quests, there was just so much of that, especially that tower bit.

DA:I definately has the best combat mechanics in the series and the plot isn't actually all that bad, though I do think it's the worst in the series, but what I really don't like about it is the mediocre villain. Also I didn't like the crafting system.

It's still a fun game. And I think DA 2 gets more hate than it deserves.

I’d do a fan theory on who the real villains are for the game are, but if I am right about everything, I wouldn’t want to ruin the series on you.

I was a big fan or Origins. Dragon Age 2, I could take or leave, and I feel the same way about Inquisition. I got maybe 6 hours into it and stopped playing. It wasn't a bad game, but it didn't suck me in like the original game did. I will probably go back and play it at some point, but it's not high on my list of priorities.

It’s too bad, because it’s eye opening.

DA:I is eye opening? The story? Maybe I didn't make it far enough to get invested. The beginning had that one mission where you storm that tower, but after that it seems like a lot of menial tasks. I'll give it another chance at some point, but I have a huge backlog of games I'm really exited about right now.

I’ve played, and I thought BioWare had redeemed themselves after ME3s ending.

There is riddles wrapped in egnimas surrounded by mysteries, and if you get the DLC, it does give you huge clues as to what is happening in that universe.

plus Solas is my total MEGA- Make Elves Great Again!

I only ever cared to fight 1 dragon, once that was done I felt as though I'd accomplished my task and any dragon fights after that felt like a chore. They were big fights, and felt actually threatening, sure, but they also became monotonous and the excitement waned long before the fight was over.

My biggest gripe with Inquisition was the combat..... The hotbar, in particular. 8 slots. I get that it doesn't apply to consoles, but restricting PC players with a hotbar that doesn't have enough room for all the abilities you can learn is just FAIL.

I tried to play the game twice, and I still can't finish it. The main story line is interesting but... that's it. That's literally it. Side quests are abhorrent. My biggest gripe is that they created this huge open world, with big location to explore but... there's nothing to explore. The world is completely empty and boring. They didn't fill the world with anything. Then comes the crafting system... I really hate this trend that started a few years ago that kept forcing that the idea of crafting is cool. No, it's not. At least not in the way it has been implemented in games so far. Gathering and crafting in DAI is done solely to artificially increase hours of play. That's it. It's such a boring chore to gather materials and craft same looking stuff over and over again, it's not even funny. But hey, at the end you have 100s of hours poured in the game and thinking the money was well spent.

Basically the empty open world, forceful crafting system, boring side quests, bland character development (for most, not all) were a major turn-off.

I keep trying to play it and I keep uninstalling it. Nothing at the beginning really compels me to play it, I really don't find any of the characters that interesting, and honestly find them kinda boring, and the world is also really boring too, and does not really make me want to explore it that much. Maybe one day I will get into it, but for now, it will be just sitting on my origin account.
If you like me, that's great! If you hate me, that's cool, just don't hide it.

For me the biggest gripe about Inquisition is that it feels like an open world MMO without other players in it. There is so many boring side quests and padding in between the actual story stuff.

Inquisition was actually not bad. It wasn't like the games before but it was still fun.

They oversimplified or removed many RPG elements, you can't even increase your dexterity if you are a warrior. There are so few skills, by the end of the game every character from the same class is identical, ability wise.
Speaking of, your teammates are rubbish. Everyone's but Cole and Varric backstory is really uninteresting and their personalities are so bland, even the dog from Origins had a more fleshed out personality.
The plot totally ignores much of what you did in the previous games, not a single Grey Warden seems to care about what the Warden Commander of Ferelden, the guy who killed the Archdemon has to say about any of their plans; Hawke might have been an upbeat guy that cared about doing the right thing, but now he is just a bum; the move to the website instead of importing saves also allowed the writers to rewrite your choices too: the codex says that Genitivi never return from the Temple of Sacred Ashes, even if you saved him, and the Ashes disappeared even if you preserved them.
