  • Suggestions for little-known RPG series you'd like to see covered on the site?

Let me know what you think. I've already got Ys, Lunar, and Shining. Thinking beyond Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but deep dives into those will also be completed.

I really liked the Lunar series a lot. I'm surprised that it wasn't more popular. I had more fun playing it than Final Fantasy.

I'll be writing on it next then. I love it as well, even Dragon Song. I haven't played either of the first two in like 15 years, I was 9 or 10 at the time. Such great RPGS.

Wizardry and Might and Magic. Real shame about those two. Wizardry is only alive thanks to the various Japanese spinoffs that come out every so often and Might and Magic had a tenth game not long ago which no one really talks about. Not to mention the Heroes of Might and Magic series, which is now Might and Magic Heroes with Ubisoft at the helm. Also, I guess Ultima would be a good series to talk about. Especially since one of the spinoffs is the reason we have Elder Scrolls today.

Might and Magic huh? I've certainly never heard of it, and I play RPGs obsessively. Time for internet research!

Did you see the new Super Robot Wars coming to Switch in Japan? It will feature English options! I'll look into these.

I'm writing a series that explores little known JRPG series. Looking for suggestions beyond even what I know. If you know of a series that is worth examination, let me know!

ah. well, for an old school suggestion, i got Earthbound. and for something more new school, ever consider doing a dev team rather than a specific series? Developer Spiders would be interesting... they did Bound by Flame, The Technomancer and the upcoming Greedfall.

I am also working on covering entire development teams and luminaries such as Suda51 and Yoko Taro. Earthbound is a great suggestion, but I need to put much more time into that game to have a competent understanding of the game.

I don't know really if this really counts, but the Phantasy Star games, seem to go under the radar, at least here in the West anyways.
If you like me, that's great! If you hate me, that's cool, just don't hide it.

Breath of Fire 1-4. Particularly #2. My favorite SNES game and most people have never even heard of it. Also Arcana, obscure SNES game that was made by the same studio that made Earthbound.

Is Locke's Quest an RPG? I don't know, its for sure a tower defense but that is a little known title I liked. I think anything worth playing is known about, but maybe I just don't know about the ones that are hidden gems.

Covering Shining Force, but it might be difficult to find all but the most recent game.

Ive been enjoying (again) Wizards & Warriors on PC. Cracking RPG that I think would be well worth breaking down. Also another shout for the Might & Magic series here.

I've never played Might & Magic, but I will look into it.

Might & Magic VII: For Blood & Honor is arguably the best one. All are available on GoG.

:O Thanks for the source. I've a Suda51 piece, then Kingdom Hearts 3 and Catherine, then this will be on the stack

Suikoden series (specifically 2). Unrated game that got over looked because it launched two weeks before FF8

            PSX RPGS are so expensive.

$5 for both games on PS Store (I think PS3 though)

I'm currently playing Tomba 2. So I suggest the Tomba series. Each game takes like 8 hours to beat, but probably 25ish to complete.

Ahem. Zalachai is a dumbest. Whoopsie. Forgot I was in the rpg section.

I am also voting for Might & Magic. I'm currently going through the entire series again now, and am on Parts 4 / 5, World of Xeen.

Legend of Legaia is criminally underrated.

It features a unique combat system, akin to a fighting game, where you input a combination of directional inputs and perform arts. The story is good, dark, and has a theme of the underlying consequences for being completely dependent.
