So Neverwinter Nights: EE is $6.79 on Fanatical.com right now

I'm really torn on getting it because they also have Siege of Dragonspear EE for 5, Planescape EE for 5 and Icewind Dale EE for 5. I hate to buy a bunch of games that are serious time commitments at once. But that would complete my Enhanced Edition collection for the Infinity Engine (Baldur's Gate style) games.

Additional 10% off with coupon FANATICAL10 too btw

If the Unreal Engine wasn’t free to use while you are developing a game, I would so buy the game just for the Aurora Toolset to create a bunch of modules with it.

That was the best part of the game, IMO.

Yeah I definitely remember both the original and Neverwinter Nights 2. They actually made a MMO a few years back (maybe 2013 time?) called "Neverwinter". It was terrible.

I only had 56k during the original's lifespan, so I never really was able to consistently dabble with the online community. Was great to step into after playing games like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

NWN was the first PC game I played. I had only played console games because, at that time, I never had a PC in college (too poor LOL) and then I was too busy (and too poor!) in med school. But, when I was a resident (again, still poor and little time...) I saw ads for NWN in gaming magazines (remember those?!) and wanted to play SO BAD! So, I researched and built my first PC for the sole purpose of playing NWN. Really funny now to think about the components I used... So antiquated now.

I think NWN1 was my first real MMORPG type experience.
I used to be an admin/DM on a couple of servers.
I even coded some PWs as well. IT was a LOT of fun.

I did buy NWN:EE, which I keep on intending to convert my PW to at some stage.

I only played NWN 2, but I plan on playing through both when my gaming schedule clears up.

I remember getting NWN2 back when I was a kid. I had no idea what do to and I got bored of the game pretty quickly. I've tried playing it again recently and it's really engrossing. Although it's FAR from perfect (Lack of Polish, Dumb companion AI, Cliched story) The fun combat, Likable characters, Cool quests and the fantastic character creator make up for it.

I'm playing the original campaign currently, and one thing is bugging me.

Is there any use for the raise-dead/resurrection spells in the game? Dead companions are revived instantly with the recall stone, and you can't revive yourself.

It doesn't work on NPCs either. I tried to use it in Linu's second loyalty mission, where we're tasked with retrieving her dead adventurer lover's journal. After finding the body in a cave I wanted to revive him instead.

Alas "This object cannot be resurrected."

Does the EE have the same problems as the BG EE? New SJW characters and altering old characters to include current year style virtue signalling? I know it's easy enough to ignore, but if I'm going to rebuy the same game again I'd rather not have to deal with any of that crap.

I still remember the first time I played NWN. I was a dwarf warrior, shite at ranged combat. Came across a dragon and realised I could cheese the fight with ranged. So I had to strip off all my armour and stand there for something like 20 real world minutes plinking away with some random bow I was planning to sell when I got back to town.

                  If they do, who cares.

It has the Aurora Toolset where people can create their own adventures, totally controlled by the creator, so fuck the official campaign and go straight for another creative person’s ideas.

Makes you wonder why BioWare doesn’t release new tool sets where you can create your own Mass Effect and Dragon Age adventures. Maybe they don’t want to see how the fans shame them now.

I imagine there are several reasons they don't offer that option to the populace, not the least of which being that the toolset for something like ME is probably not very accessible to modders. But even if it were, you're right, they'd be worried. Mods for the original NWN were often vastly superior to the included campaign.

There’s a small bit of fragility in game developers now.

Instead of inviting a community to use a toolset to tell stories, where you can learn from their creativity to make your’s even better, lets not even allow that because of our fragile egos.

Never got into em back in the day. My first foray into the franchise was the Neverwinter mmo. The console F2P port is amazing, in the sense that you don't need to spend a dime, ever. and the game doesn't gate you for it.

I played all the NWNs and their addons when they came out.
The original NWN was really fun at the time, but has aged terribly. Early 2000s 3D is just ugly as hell today. While even older games like Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen or Blood still look good thanks to the sprites and simpler geometry.

If my Indie game company really did get really popular and I would be able to afford to pay employees, I would release a toolset to create all kinds of adventures that the community would work on.

I’m kinda modelling my game development channel so people can do that already, lets hope it all works out.

Ah I recall really enjoying these when they came out - especially the epic power rush that was HOTU.

I reccomend Kingmaker if you enjoyed NWN.

If I remember Neverwinter Nights? I bought the Original game with all the expensions seperatly. I also bought The Gold, Platinum and Diamond edition of the game and I also have the EE that I haven't fired up yet. I LOVE that game. There are rumours that there are various PC D&D games in the work for 2019... lets hope we'll see NWN 3 something better than sword coast adventure a game you can't even buy anymore.

"Sword Coast Legends" wasn't bad, I never finished it but that's par for the course with me these days. The time I spent with it, though, was solidly enjoyable. I would like to see some more isometric rpgs release this year but what I really want it someone with a toolset like NWN, popular and engaging enough that modders will be drawn to it. I had hoped that would be the case with "Divinity Original Sin 2" - which absolutely feels like playing a D&D game - but the way they designed it, it seems you can only create mods for GMs to run and that has kept the interested parties at bay.

I know what you mean the same thing was done with pillars 2, I mean perhaps the Aurora engine should be updated along with the toolset. I mean the Witcher was devlopped on the Aurora Engine. Imagine what it would do for an isometric game like NWN along with the tool set.. heck even the NWN2 engine while a bit complicated people still managed to make stand alone Module.

But do you remember Neverwinter Nights, when it was an online AOL game in 1991?

Woah crazy I didn't know that. I played those "Gold Box" titles starting from Pool of Radiance, but my interest waned with each new one because the mechanics were the same in each game. I guess by the time the Gold Box Neverwinter Nights came out I had lost interest all together and never even realized it was a multiplayer game.
