I'd say TES IV: Oblivion. It was my first game into the TES series so maybe I'm a bit biased but that's just how it is. Tried Morrowind before that but unfortunately it was too outdated for me to get into. SWKoTOR is amazing as well. I hated it at first because the gameplay mechanics felt clunky and too boring. Tried again after a year or two and fell in love with the game.

I can barely choose one so heres a list:
    Borderlands 2 and the pre-sequel
both Kotors (still sad there will be no Kotor 3)
of course elder scolls oblivion and skyrim (haven't played morrowind, might try it).
Red dead redemption 1 (I would have 2 but haven't played it yet) and finally
The witcher 3 (might go buy 1 and 2 eventually)
Edit cause I can't type well.

I'd have to say, in no semblance of order:

The Elder Scroll Games (Morrowind and Skyrim)
    Fallout 3
    Divinity: Original Sin 2

Not in any particular order.... But Megaman Battle Network 5, all of the Pokemon Hoenn and Unova titles, Dark Souls 3, Persona5, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, XiV and 15 and specifically Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

I'd argue that Tales of Vesperia was the best of the tales games to come out post 2000, shame it was a 360 exclusive for western audiences, good news is we're getting a remaster early next year that I personally can't wait for.

As for the question itself? That's really hard to answer.

Best JRPG: Persona 5 or Lost Odyssey (Honourable mentions to the Trails and Xenoblade series)
Best Western: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines or Dragon Age Origins

RPG's are my favourite games, so it's really difficult to choose.

    Oreshika: Tainted bloodlines, this was a blast until i lost my vita ;_;

Dragon age 2 (yes): i know that fans of the first one really didn't like the 2nd, BUT i liked the aesthetics and the combat soO much, and the main character.. and even the gaymage .
I'd even say that i liked 2nd one more than the Inquisition !
(okay, i want to play it again now, dammit!)

If we were just talking about the world itself, I'd say Final Fantasy 12. Ivalice is my favorite video game world of all time. Other than that, it's hard to pick out one that stands above the rest. I love the Etrian Odyssey games, the dragon quest games, most of the final fantasy games. So Im having a hard time narrowing it down to just one game.

I loved blue dragon! I was dissapointed however how short the game was and there wasnt a replay value. Its been a while but i believe there wasnt much reason to grind at all in the game. I dont mean endless hrs of mindless grinding, but giving the gamers something to work for to get the best weapons or skills or whatever.
Everything else in the game was amazing.

Blue Dragon. Has an overworld. A class system I like though I would have preferred each character having their own abilities. The best battle camera I've ever seen in an rpg, A story that had genuine surprises. That classic toriyama character design. On the downside the character are kind of annoying, especially marumaru.

Final Fantasy X and Elder Scrolls Oblivion are two games that I hold in really high regard. Final Fantasy X (my favorite game of all time) really got me into JRPG genre where I was looking for other JRPG games to play. Story was great, characters were fun, and Spira was a really cool world to explore. When I played Oblivion for the first time and got out of the jail at the beginning, I was amazed that I can do whatever and ideally however I wanted. I spent hundreds of hours doing the guild quests, random side quests, and taking the obnoxious arena fan to the highest point to do awesome kills that would knock him off the mountain.

I hope one day we can see Xenosaga collection on Switch. I loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and I would love to play all the other games of the Xeno series, but I don't have the right console to do so XD
