Who remembers great JPRG's from the 80's and 90's? (maybe some 00's to)

Legend of the dragoon and ff8 will always be the og's for me. When i wasn't playing i was watching my siblings play so i actually knew what i was doing. Such great games that i could spend hours on even now.

There are so many JRPG's we never got to play on the PC-88 and PC-98. X68000 also had quite a few awesome games.

I remember thoroughly enjoying "Thousand Arms". Not only is it an amazing jrpg, it got me into the Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki

Hell yeah. I just got done playing the original Wild Arms on my snes mini a few weeks ago. Still a great game. Vandal Hearts is on my list as well. Loved that game. I especially like that you mention Suikoden I & II. 1 was amazing, and when it was new, I was spellbound, then when 2 came out, it was a defining moment for me. To this day, Suikoden II remains my absolute top videogame of all time. It's a pity we so rarely see games like that today. All those you mentioned. Valkyrie Profile. Star Ocean: The Second Story, Lufia 1 and 2, Super Mario RPG. Breat of Fire III. So many great jrpgs the likes of which we will never see created again.

As an aside, apparently Konami started poking around on the japanese Suikoden site, sparking speculation that the series will be revived. All I can say is...god I hope not.

Pretty much nailed most of the games I loved back in the day, I'm a huge JRPG fan and for me the golden age was on the PS1. I still play through some of them every year or two, specifically Suikoden 2, Grandia, and Star Ocean 2 (albeit the PSP remake).

Slightly off topic, but for people who love Grandia as much as I do I'd recommend looking up Grandia ReDux, it's a fan patch and you'll need to emulate (bit of a grey area I know, but I don't see a problem if you own the game) which rebalances the game to make things more difficult. Grandia is probably my favourite game ever made, but it has a gaping issue in that it's far too easy while promoting grinding in order to get access to the best abilities. If you go this route you end up way over powered, so the patch addresses that.

Yes I heard of Alter Code F, I would like to play it. The graphics are improved and you get to use other characters, I love the new Boomerang Flash theme.

I really liked Persona 5. If it wasn't a list of older jRPGs I'd put it in my top 10 above Breath of Fire 3

I've played so many more. They're like pizza, even the bad ones are usually still pretty good. Anyone remember Legend of Legaia? Not a favorite, but that game was a trip.

Anyone looking for an extra couple Final Fantasies that are good should check out Dimensions and FF4: After Years. They're both pretty much full-size SNES era Final Fantasy games

No Grandia mention!?

Excellent list otherwise. =p Although I preferred Breath of Fire 4 to 3 personally. I totally agree on the top spot for Suikoden 2, it's an incredible game in many respects.

Loved Legend of Legaia mind, great combat but the random encounter rate is the worst I've EVER encountered in any JRPG. Legaia 2 was pretty good too imo, had a great combat with that joint art system.
