Kingdom Come Deliverance wins this for me, I was shocked into that world and loved just roaming the countryside.

Every fight felt like it would be a fight to the death and the quests were nice and varied in a grounded way.

I'd have to say Kingdom Come deliverance. I have not had a chance to play AC yet, but I have Watched reviews on it. To me Kingdom Come deliverance deserves more attention in the RPG world. Yes the game launched with bugs (Like most AC games) but that doesn't hold it back from being one of the best RPG's this year. RPG means Role playing game, and in Kingdom Come, you can role play as who you want to be. You can be a knight in shining armor, a bandit, an archer, ect... You start off the game as a nobody, and it can stay that way if you want to be. Kingdom Come is very unique in its gameplay, and it is something we have not seen before. The combat is enjoyable once you learn how to use a sword properly, you have to LEARN how to use a sword. There are many things in Kingdom Come that make it unique, and I think that the title of best RPG of 2018 should go to something that is very unique and new.

Like I have said, I have not played AC odyssey yet but I will definitely play it soon! I’d love to hear everyone's opinions!

KCD is deffinitely upt there but to me, it's too... rough around the edges to warrant a GOTY from me.
Honestly I think AC: Odyssey has been review-bombed just because it's Ubi and "Another AC" but it really doesn't deserve it. It's real breath of fresh air into the franchise.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Pillars of Eternity II, Pathfinder: Kingmaker... impossible to choose. On top of these we got Dragon Age XI and Octopath Traveller. What a great year for RPGs!

I'm still on the fence about buying this one. I read some great reviews and some people bashing the game for bugs etc... I just want to know If it has great story, memorable characters with substance with possibly a pinch of romance or in-party fighting, and how is the battles - people say it's too hard, and some say it's just as it should be. So, yeah... I want it to be good but hadn't yet made the leap. You tried it? Why do you think it should be mentioned in the top rpgs of the year?

I didn't find Kingmaker to be anything special, have you played "Divinity Original Sin 2"?

I have a little bit, but my wife is the story-based RPGer in the household so this is based off my impressions and her opinions, so take that as you will. If you're looking for story and characters and a classic RTWP CRPG there's at least a decent chance you'd like it. It's rough around the edges for sure, it has bugs and needs some balance tweaking, but the developers are quite responsive so waiting for them to polish it up a bit might be a good idea. I definitely recommend it but with an asterisk.

Since I have a PC, and so haven't tried either "Red Dead" or "God of War", I will have to say "Assassin's Creed Odyssey", which was the best PC game in a year of mostly okay PC games. Not do disparage Odyssey, I really enjoyed it, but it's no "Witcher 3" or "Divinity Original Sin 2", setting new bards for its genre.

Dragon Quest XI was just amazing. Best game I played in a long time. Octopath Traveler looks amazing as well. Need to invest in a Switch.

Really liked what I played of Octopath Traveller so far...I'm horrible I do need to get back to it. Don't have a PS4, but I can't wait for Dragon Quest XI to hit the Switch.
