You have to understand that those large vanilla servers are full of players who have played vanilla Wow for over 3 years now and ... and keep coming back even with all of the private server drama and re-launches. What modern mmo has this sort of retention?

Likely, and this is true for myself, your biggest hurdle may be shrugging off your old memories of the game and accepting the true meta of Classic Wow (a game based on 1.12 mechanics for your entire leveling and end game life cycle). I cannot stress how different this is over the memories of leveling through the original patches. The game's overall meta is quite different. Once you separate fact from meme, you will gain a sense of this version of Classic (and even the private server players do not know how different Classic will be from current private progression) and may even discover new frustrations or enjoyment.
I also think it depends on the group of friends you make in classic. If you get the crappy GOGOGO bs of today's WOW and people will not stay long. This is why I am looking to make a guild specifically to have an atmosphere that is welcoming and low stress. If people cant act like adults they just dont belong with my group.

I had a lot of fun with the first 2 expansions of WOW and MANY hours were spent playing and raiding. But I'm just not sure that the original experience alone will stand up with out the fun group of people aspect that it had way back when. Plus i STILL cant get the Molten Core music out of my head i ran that raid enough that i was full exalted with the Hydraxion Water Lords. I don't know if I have it in me again to do that raid from square 1.

I'd love to play me some classic with normal servers and proper anti-bot system... but i refuse to give any more money to Actizzard black hole of resource management.

Fool me once(Cataclysm), fool me twice (Mists), fool me third time(Draenor - even though i loved the raids here) ... no more, there is more than enough games to play to fill my free time.

I love the fact that Blizz listened to the community after that "You think you do but you dont" bs however im not sure i want to grind as much as i did on the original release, might try it but doubt ill be as hardcore.

Well let me know what you all think about my idea for a guild. I dont want to call it casual because I hate people being casual and putting 0 effort into things and expecting all the reward. I do want a slower pace guild that will also be very social and play the content together as a guild. I am not into the progression raiding scene anymore though I did to it years ago.

They should not change classic at all. I do think they should move to BC though. Classic should stay classic outside of the Bnet integrations and server configuration changes. I dont want things different than what it was.

Thats exactly why I am looking at playing classic. I am also watching Pantheon, CU and Ashes. CU and Ashes I am a backer of. Its just Classic will be out first and I dont think any of the other games will be out until 2021 at the earliest.

Blizzard burnt me too which is why I have not played WOW since the first month of WOD. However when it comes to classic my friends want to play which is why I am going to return. I miss having a game where community is big.

    • The casual gamer who played vanilla back in the day - I have many of those friends
    • Retail players and other players who never played vanilla.
Call me crazy, but I don't think adding 5M+ subs the first month is something that is impossible, especially given that more than 100M players have played WoW over the years. Naturally is going to decline from the initial peak, but I think it will stabilize at around 1M Classic only players.
Yea I agree with this. I have a lot of old friends coming out of the wood work asking what I am doing. I think there will be more players playing Classic that retail.

This is why I am thinking of making the guild I am. So people dont have to solo level. Yea people will do quest part of the time but I want 2 to 3 nights a week were members get together and run dungeons together. I am also going to be leveling one character with a good friend of mine.

I would play Classic WoW, but Blizzard has burned its bridges with me around the end of Cataclysm due to unsatisfactory customer support. It seems they know that classic wow is for players that want it and hopefully they won't allow other players who are not really interested in the classic experience to push their random changes on the game. For those of you who will play it, I hope you all have fun.
