The Elder Scroll 6 only in VR. Would it improve the RPG experience?

I would think that VR isn't going to move past where we are now until we make some sort of major tech discovery, all modern VR is now is two Wiimotes for hands, a camera that moves with your head, and some lense trickery to give you the illusion of 3D. If there's VR in ES6, I'd imagine it would be integrated into the game so you can play it either with or without, but that's just my speculation.

If only you saw how poorly the Neptunia VR title done. I agree that it's a gimmick, I appreciate that we're seeing titles that are trying to make VR part of the game and not an accessory to it, but Nintendo tried that with the Wii and look at where we are now.

VR tech isn't really advancing much. Even in the AAA games that it's being shoehorned into it has a tendency to break immersion if anything. Who knows what the future holds but I'd rather wait another generation before it becomes a standard especially in an Elder Scrolls game. With all their questionable decisions Bethesda is still one of the few western devs making rpgs I enjoy.

VR is only going to get better and more common in the gaming sphere, as prices drop, cordless systems become more reliable, and headsets become a little smaller. I have a VR system and love it, playing adventure games in VR is engaging and enjoyable, even when the gameplay is simplistic. I look forward to seeing a major AAA company release a quality rpg (like something from Bioware or CDPR) on VR.
That said, I'd hate to see a major release only on VR, where only a small percentage of gamers would have access. Then again, a strong enough game, combined with an affordable system, might be what we need to pull VR into the mainstream.

Releasing an AAA title only for VR would be a terrible move. (Not that terrible moves are something alien to Bethesda, of course.
)
VR is a niche market and will never take over entirely. I'd even go as far as saying the VR market is dying.

I remember getting Everquest 2 (my first MMO) at launch and couldn't play it because I didn't have a GPU. So I got my very first 128 MB Direct X 7 graphics card.Originally posted by Drann View Post
I'm very much against VR becoming a necessity, as an optional extra I've no problem with it for those that enjoy it.
I think that's the problem with what you're talking about here, I remember buying Morrowind the day it came out and how excited I was to play it. Were I in a position where I had to upgrade my computer to play it, that would have benefited in other ways, as the potential upgrades would have been necessities that would benefit other areas of my computing experience (CPU, more RAM, GPU etc) rather than an optional extra like a keyboard with macro functions built in. My gaming setup isn't going to get "upgraded" to a VR setup because for me that is not an upgrade, I dislike using VR for a number of reasons and shy of deep dive VR in the vein of SAO as mentioned by Ranmo that isn't going to change.
In my eyes running a VR headset is akin to having a second or third monitor for productivity or multi-screen gaming. It's a great addition for those that want them but it simply isn't mainstream and I can't see it becoming so.

There is a player base that cannot use VR, I am one of them. Motion sickness gets bad fast, and while I can take medication for it, I refuse to in order to play a videogame. That was my main issue with Mirror's Edge, even without VR I couldn't play for more than 10 minutes before I got sick. I really hope there is a 2D version and it isn't 3D only.

I'm not really interested in VR until we get brain machine interfaces. ES VI will be on all major consoles, PC, probably mobile. While it may be a good leap for RPG's to eventually go that route, the technology doesn't really exist to make it viable for anyone outside headset enthusiasts.

With 99% of the consumers computers had no graphics cards or cpus capable to run it in Medium graphic settings.
It didn't take long until the market catch up.
Also I understand there is no top line games using it.
Since Bethesda was having a project with Oculus Rift and the ES games where always at to top of software tech.
Only Bethesda take the risk and also capable of doing it properly.
Edit:
Doing it properly... with alot of Bugs. ("B" in Bethesda stands for Bugs as everybody knows)

VR isn't compatible with everyone and would be a big mistake if ES 6 was only VR. I'm sure people with epilepsy/migraine sufferers wouldn't appreciate it either.
Looking at the debacle called Fallout 76, I'm just hoping ES6 and Starfield will be released without game breaking bugs or micro-transaction-ed up to the hilt.
The new ip's may save Bethesda in the end, but I'm going to expect the worse so I can be pleasantly surprised.

When I think of Elder Scrolls and VR all my mind can conjure is that funny video of a kid just flinging his arms around wildly and in game its just hitting the monster in front of him 100s of times. I think it should stay away unless they found a way to fix the melee combat.

The expectations of VR has been forever ruined for me by Sword Art Online
There are a few videos I see of the lightsaber guitar hero game that looks interesting and fun but otherwise, I just want things to be simple and a controller is a perfect way to do that. I personally just don't think VR is quite there yet to be the mainstream way to play, just how there are still more 2D screens in cinemas than 3D.
VR still feels like a massive gimmick and an expensive one, i already hate not being able to play certain games because of the console wars and not having an Xbox it would be annoying if games like Elder scrolls released solely on VR

Only in VR is a terrible move. To properly do VR you need a lot of space and those little treadmills are still prlly a bit expensive.

Well, I think the "only" part will definitely be wrong. If Skyrim is anything to go by, ES6 will be available on everything from major console to your smart fridge.
As to your actual question, I hope not. I just really can't enjoy VR at all and I think it has a long way to go before any major company with an established franchise goes exclusively for it.
