When playing Donkey Kong you don't need to get to the top either so I guess that's also an RPG.

Except you dont need to do them

So Donkey Kong is an RPG because you play a plumber? The "role" in role play doesn't mean you play a prescribed role as *every* game has you do that. What game doesn't have you playing some kind of role? Role play means the player has some kind of choice about how they want to play the game, who their character is, how they behave, what their attributes are etc. And before you say "you can be a fisherman", selecting which fixed elements of a game you choose to ignore doesn't make it role play either, especially when ignoring those aspects of the game bars progress.

That's just things you need to do to in the game. Just because the game calls them "quests" doesn't mean they are quests in the RPG sense. All games have things you need to do. Is Donkey Kong an RPG because you need to get to the top of the structure?

Thomas you forgot also about rebuilding Town Hall or whatever it was and many more. I guess I'll leave this for ppl who aplyed it for like 800 hours and couldnt find any quest in the game. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Quests

I belive you should play it in a first place if you think it dont have fetch quests. And regarding your roler play question. How about a farmer? What do you think that you can roleplay only some wanky fantasy or sci fi characters?

Well, it certainly has some RPG elements with the skills and equipment.
But that's about it. You cannot build your character in any meaningful, different way. Combat is action combat (determined by player skill), not RPG combat (determined by character stats).
Plus, combat is only a certain part of the game, you could play entirely without any combat.

What you actually do within the game is in almost no way even affected by your character's stats. Every character can do everything equally well, skill levels mostly just unlock craftables.
So, I'd say it is partly an RPG, albeit a VERY casual one.

If there is any challenge in the game, it doesn't come from mastering the character system but from managing the economy (which has 0 to do with RPG gameplay).

You were trying to use the fact that you have played it for 700 hours as some kind of indicator that you must be "more right" than me. So why is the fact that I've played it 800 hours not make me "more right" than you? It's called appeal to authority fallacy.

As for your actual question (of course I haven't played 800 hours, I just wanted to show you the error of your ways) I don't consider those fetch quests. A fetch quest is when an NPC gives you a quest to locate an object in a certain location and to deliver it to them. Being asked to supplied an item I either have growing on my farm or stored in my storage box is not a fetch quest.

Wait, you played Stardew Valley for 800 hours but you said there are no fetch quests. Have you never checked your mail? Or the job poster in town?

I played it over 800 hours, so maybe you should consider that you are wrong?

No, a Simulation is a game that attempts to mirror real life activities, farming in this case. A game can be a RPG without being a simulation, like the "Baldur's Gate" series.
