  • "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" Review, critique

    Hello fellow EG people!

I published my first game review on Wordpress, all feedback is appreciated. Here's the link:

    https://ninuju.wordpress.com/2019/01...view-critique/

I will be uploading a video using this post as a script sooner or later, depending on when I get my hands on a good microphone. Feel free to follow me on Wordpress if you're interested, I will be reviewing games at a rate of 1 per month, more or less. If you want to know more about me, I suggest you read my bio here on EG.

    Thanks in advance! ^^

Very nice write-up. BotW is the most fun I've had on a console game in... well, a long time. I first finished it on the WiiU with my grandson and we are now re-playing it on the Switch. The open-world, do-what-you-want environment is really liberating. We're both still having a great time even though it's our second play-through. I can't think if a console game that I've finished that I'd like to play through again in recent memory.

I'd have to disagree with one of your criticisms however, I think the shrines are great. Even though many elements are re-used, they are a fun little diversion that doesn't take too much time and has a nice reward. The puzzles are fun (for the most part, though some can be frustrating) and finding a new shrine is kinda like a little excitement mixed in to your travel from one point or another on the map.

Anyway, nice job and keep up the good writing, looking forward to seeing more.

    /cheers

Hey! Glad you enjoyed, thank you for taking the time to read and reply!

I really love the game overall, and I'm sure people have very different opinions about shrines, have to agree to disagree I guess. Sorry if it seemed like I was stating it as a fact of some kind, that was never my intention.

Earlier in the writing process, I had a section where I talked about the good shrines. Ones, that utilize the multiple cool mechanics BotW offers in a more complex and thought out matter, than the five second "move this ball here"(an obvious over exaggeration) ones, but I ended up scrapping it to cut down the length a little bit. I do see where you're coming from, though. Also, the fact I finished the game in a week or so most likely added to my frustration regarding shrines... That wasn't a great idea, heh.

Next, I'll most likely be playing and reviewing Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch. I've heard way too much good about that 15€ indie game, for way too long. It's about time I play and review it myself. ^^

Hey, good write up. Only critique going forward is that it is just a wall of text, and a lot of people hate reading a dense amount of information. Maybe try breaking it up a bit with in game pictures as well and I think it would go a long way. Don't do a 2002 website and just throw up pictures everywhere, but use one or two (or three if a long write up) and it would break up the monotony a lot. You already break it up, and it seems like you want to throw up pictures in there (one of the many towers, Link can climb any surface) but nothing there.

Excellent review. Keep this up! I must admit that I'm the outlier for BotW. I've owned it for probably about five months and still haven't finished it. I'm maybe halfway through the game. Just didn't bring me in. I enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn and sunk 100 hours into that, but then started BotW and really don't get what the big deal is, as I feel there's so many open world games that in many cases do what BotW does, but better. Then again, the last Zelda game I played was A Link to the Past on SNES/GBA, so I can't say I was ever a big fan of the franchise. I know, I suck. Don't hate me.
