Preferred Dice System for Table Top RPGs

I thought it would be an interesting topic of preference. What kind of dice system do you guys prefer? Are you more of a Dice pool system like Shadow Run and World of Darkness, or are you more classic D20 system like Dungeons and Dragons

Here's a poll, but share what you think. What do you like and why?

Play cards only huh? That sounds pretty neat. Makes me think Savage World's where you use a deck of 52 to determine initiative. Dead Lands uses a deck of cards to determine stats based on what kind of poker hand you drew.

Back when I was most familiar with D&D and similar systems, I could not imagine why one would want to use dice pools. As my exposure to new systems grew, however, I came to realize that dice pools are a vastly superior mechanic - giving the GM a lot more eloquent control over modifiers. That said, I do not like it when a pool gets above 12 dice, as that becomes too difficult and time-consuming to manage. Modiphius Conan uses a d20 dice pool system with an upper limit of 5 dice and story points to adjust outcomes in a way that should make for some exciting and interesting encounters.

I am also very fond of card-based resolution systems. The Deliria system uses the value and color of poker cards to determine success, with the drawing of multiple cards creating a building tension in skill checks in a way that rolling a d20 does not. Other card-based systems have offered alternative approaches, such as the fantastic Tokyo Nova Japanese rpg which uses not only the color and number, but suit of the card, and allows you to build some very effective combo actions by chaining cards together.

I play too many varied games to have a preference, especially since the devil's in the details.
That said, I prefer a degree of uniformity in the dice system. If it's d20, that should be the root of it all, I don't care for games using different types of rolls for certain mechanics.

It's hard for me to pick a preference. I've done a lot of D&D growing up so a D20 kinda has this iconic or classic appeal. Later I got into the World of Darkness series, my first dice pool system, it was a different experience but had it own appeal to. I mean who doesn't like rolling a handful of dice?

d20 systems like D&D make things interesting with variety. I mean I admit I had a strange enjoyment when surrounded by tons of different kinds of dice of different colors and designs. For simplicity's sake and speed though, I favor systems like GURPS or BATTLETECH/MECHWARRIOR where all you need are a bunch of d6s.
