ATTEMPTING TO POST, FORUM DOESN'T QUITE LIKE ME COPYING OVER FROM MY DOCUMENT

    Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

    Developer
    Troika Games

    Platform
    PC

Based on the tabletop RPG Vampire: The Masquerade from the World of Darkness universe, Bloodlines puts players into the role of the Fledgling, someone who was in for more than they bargained for one eventful night. As the Fledgling, players get to explore the night life of LA and learn about the supernatural life that has kept itself hidden from the eyes of the rest of the world.

Upon starting a new game, players are asked whether they'd like to take a quiz or go straight to the character creation sheet. For new players, taking the quiz isn't a bad idea as the questions it asks help determine what clan might be best suited for you. However depending on which clan you get, you may want to switch (more on that later). During the character creation process players get to choose the gender of their character and select which of the seven clans to play as. There is also an optional character history

While a older game, it still has a live following with community patches every few weeks or so. I've played through it several times and found it holds up fairly well each time.

Yep. I just wish I could get my review up properly XD For some reason it refuses to let me, getting an error message any time I try to add any more than what I have currently up. Used the "Contact Us" to explain the situation the same day, but haven't heard a response yet. Tried to do another update on it today, but same issue so for now I have an incomplete review >.> Kind of annoying because I can't even delete the review, hence the notice at the start of it.

It looks like they may have a limit set up on how long a post can be.

Well currently what's being shown is less than my Horizon: Zero Dawn review, yet I've seen others have posts that are longer than this review spring up the same day, so it's a little annoying trying to figure out what exactly is the source of the issue.

Be aware that unmodded the game is nearly unplayable due to game breaking bugs, performance issues and buggy quests. Beware of standing anywhere near opening or closing doors!

TelperionST Thanks for the warning, all the reviews on Steam mention getting the unofficial patch

If I recall it's actually impossible to play while unmodded due to a start up error when used on modern systems (had actually mentioned this in the review towards the end, but due to the forum's own technical issues XD ).. the Unofficial Patch addresses this plus other issues (such as lack of widescreen support, but if I recall it only provides a tool in it's files that are installed that you have to manually apply) in the base game. There's also a Patch Plus option which makes changes to the game to add in some content that was cut and make some alterations to bring the game in line with what Troika intended to do but didn't get the chance.

Also, don't play as Malkavian or Nosferatu on your first run, the former has weird dialogue throughout (due to their insanity) and can spoiler some things while Nosferatu can't wander around the various hubs due to have a face that's like a testicle with teeth and some tumors. They break the Masquerade if spotted.

yep if you're going to play VtMB you'll want this.
Wesp5 is insane last updated dec 12 on a game that released over 14 years ago!
The Unofficial Patch is not really a mod, but while the default basic patch mostly only fixes bugs, the optional plus patch, that can be choosen at installation, is like a restoration project, adding a lot missing content, including new quests, levels...

I would love to see a modern remake of this game, just as beautiful, atmospheric, and complex, but with the budget to finish the last 1/4 of the game with all the love and attention to the setting that we saw in the rest. Still one of my all-time favorite games, it really brought the World of Darkness to PC gaming with a level of depth we will probably never see again.

A lot of people were hoping the recently released "Vampyr" game would give us something similar but that game failed on almost every level. It's not terrible, but a very mediocre game with some bad writing and story choices.

A couple more games like this and I might have got into the ttrpg World of Darkness crowd (I made passes at joining some LARP groups but every person I met was a flake).

Yeah I was hoping Vampyr would at least some what live up to Bloodlines, but it didn't. Had some nice stuff, but like you mentioned, has issues. There are people within the community that are hoping a new World of Darkness entry will happen sometime in the near future. Can't quite remember the details, but I recall seeing talks about the license shifting on the Steam boards which could allow for something new to happen, but would still be awhile.
