Subnautica. How deep you dare to go.

WARNING MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD


You are survivor from spaceship called Aurora which some unknown reason suddenly started crash landing towards near by planet. Game starts when you had just gotten inside the escape pod and you quickly strap yourself to a chair. While you are free falling to the planet you can see from a window explosions on Auroras hull and how it too starts decent towards planet. Something goes wrong inside the pod and you are knocked out cold. luckily you survived the fall and after you fake up and quickly take care of the fire that had started. You go outside and take a first look of this new world.


Subnautica is first-person survival game with a twist, you are stranded to the planet which is completely covered by ocean but that doesn't mean that planet is lifeless quite the contrary. Below the waves lives totally alien and working ecosystem, you have different types of small fish which starts the food chain and which you use as well now to keep the hunger and thirst at bay to all the way up to big predators which attack soon as you enter on their territory.

Like any other survival game crafting and exploration is big part of main gameplay, loop you start small collecting resources until you can craft your most important starting gear like bigger oxygen tank, Scanner, repair tool etc and slowly advancing bigger and better gear like small submarine or Laser cutter this loop is really satisfying and the pace which you get your upgrades is just right. Of course for some people managing your hunger and thirst can get bit tedious but no worry If you don´t like that you can play this without those options as long as you started your game on that mode you can´t change that option middle of the playtrough without console command on pc which is small negative, on consoles you just have to start a new game which is bigger negative.

Like i said before there are different modes which you can choose from when you start a new game. There´s Survival which is basic manage you hunger and thirst, There´s Freedom in which those are disabled, Hardcore where you have only one life and when you die save is deleted also hunger and thirst are on and finally we have creative in which you are given unlimited amount of resources and all the tools you need to build any kind of base you want. In basic modes you have to grind lot of resources to build your dream ocean base full of observatories, glass tubes your own bedroom full windows. You can build your base or bases all over the planet harder on basic mode but on creative go crazy. In creative mode everything that could slow you down is disabled so that you free to do anything you want but also story is off. Yes this game has a great story which i really enjoyed with additional lore everywhere you go.

Music in this game minimal and all the tracks if there even are more than one which I´m pretty sure only that one plays over and over again although i never got bored of it because it did fit atmosphere of the game so well but if music was minimal sound-design certainly is not. Every creature has distinctive voice so that you can almost always tell which creature is nearby. Everything below the waves sounds just perfect from small fish to the big predators and way it´s supposed to.

Now this game is not void of it´s problems most of the bugs that i faced are probably solved by now. My save game broke two times while i was playing and had to start a completely new game two times, first time when it happened game was still at beta so no surprise there second time happened shortly after it came out of beta and that probably broke my second game. Take note I enjoyed this game so much I was still willing to go back. Another problem and this is real one, many betsheda games have this problem and it always annoys me and that is draw distance. how textures just pop up right front of your eyes sure it´s annoying but i can take it because otherwise this game is so perfect. And now I have same problem like i had with Witcher 3 that can´t forget everything about this game so that could experience this world all over again with fresh eyes.
