So before I start I wanted to say a few things. 1. I own all these console s I’m going to talk about. 2. I prefer Xbox however that’s just a personal preference. 3. I’m going to go over all their Strengths and weaknesses and if you disagree please feel free to correct or engage with me or just add your own. Thank you in advance
I’ll start off with the king this generation being the PS4. The PS4 has made a couple models this gen with a regular model a slim and Their high end model the pro. The pro being the best PlayStation console to buy for performance and graphics. Lowest price I could find now is 220 for a used base and 399 for a new pro bundle. So the price is relatively average for a console this gen at this point. So to start off the PS4 has been a massive improvement from the PS3 in every way. The os and online is much better and the updates and everything function so much better. Sony really stepped it up this gen from the last one. However Sony didn’t just stop to invest in their hardware they decided to keep on keeping on with their software. While for all the systems at the beginning of this gen the launch wasn’t good at all however now Sony is really hitting their stride with their games making theirs stand far above all their fellow competitors. Uncharted 4 horizon, zero dawn, and the feather in the cap the 2018 goty god of war has set Sony’s first party into a new level this gen. However it’s not just their first party exclusives it’s also their third party exclusives that are also doing amazing as well. Yakuza 6 persona 5 and now Spider-Man Sony has invested super heavy in the third party as well. Speaking of third party Sony also has gotten the better advertising and bundles this gen as well. Consoles for monster hunter world kingdom hearts 3 red dead Spider-Man and call of duty bo4 have made it a more attractive console for consumers to buy a highly rated game with the best selling console I myself own the god of war console. To break it down farther Sony has even brought vr to the console as well. Creating one of the most consumer friendly vrs out there but also making some great vr games like Astro bot and adding VR support to some amazing games like Tetris effect and the resident evil 7. While their competitors seemed to have backed off vr Sony seems to be poised to be the only home console that offers vr support next gen. Bluntly speaking even though the PS4 is entering the end phase of its cycle they still seem poised to launch more great exclusives awesome remakes and continues sales growth Sony seems to be on top for at least the next 2 years. Some cons that I still have with the system. They still haven’t made a good multiplayer exclusive nor has Sony ever. Their os while improved still manages to be bad and still requires updates to fix and make it better. Their store also is annoying to go through to find the items you want sometimes. Sony also has the Spector of the PS3 still looming over them as well with name changes being a nightmare withthe risk of you losing some of you PS3 games and dlc just from a simple name change. That being said the PS4 might actually keep selling even with the ps5 being launched. The future is for Sony is going to look great going forward and the PS4 is one of the best consoles on the market and is defiantly a play. As a side note Sony’s ps+ free games usually are the best compared to Xbox and Nintendo
The nintendo switch is the most interesting consoles to be released this gen and in a few years might be poised to be one of the best selling consoles of all time. The Nintendo switch is the worst console on this list in terms of horsepower. Graphically the switch can’t compete with the 2 other titans on the list however where it lacks it speed it makes up for it with versatility. The switch is a very rare hybrid system of a portable handheld or a tv console having both movement controls and support for controllers. Also adding to the line up Nintendo also has had its share of amazing first party games with their flagship Zelda and Mario being massive hits on launch and now their other staples in smash and pokemon now coming in your starting to see massive success coming in fast for the young console with sales starting to show it has already past Xbox1 life time sales which is very impressive. The switch has also found a very unique nitch as well being not only producing some good first and third party games but being a interesting indie machine brining many fun and awesome indie games to their platforms as well as porting older titles to their system with games finding a second life to a Nintendo market they didn’t have access to before(other consoles are getting them as well but Nintendo mains are now getting access) the switch defiantly is on the right track and their really isn’t to much more to say about this console other then it’s offering new and unique ways for hardcore and casual gamers to unite in their play style and like my wife is offering something of a new platform for maybe a new generations of future consumers. The cons for the switch are very simple. Their Nintendo store is a nightmare their online went from free to paid. Their transferring system is absolutely a joke where You could lose your switch you lose everything. Plus their joycons also seem to have a high failure rate as well. That being said the price point is actually a nice happy medium sitting at 250 used 300 new so it’s definatly worth the price and it’s still the cheapest online 20 bucks a year or 35 for up to 8 accounts. Vs Xbox and Sony 60 for a whole year for 1 but their free game service included is ok it really depends on the type of gamer you are. if You’re on the go a lot then and you love games the switch is the way to go however battery life isn’t as good lasting between 4-6 hours. That being said the switch offers a great player experience for everyone from the causal to the hardcore. It’s defiantly a solid choice.
xboxone well I did say I preferred this console however that being said I’m not going to sugarcoat it as well. The Xbox pricing is as low as 150 used to 500 dollars for the most powerful console on the market in the one x. However Microsoft spent more time this gen trying to innovate how games and xbox could be payed and used more then they invested in their first party and third party exclusives. They had some good games sunset overdrive, ryse, and the forza series have been some amazing games on the Xbox but they have also been some big misses especially with halo 5. That being said Xbox is infact the most consumer friendly console on the market. To break it down Xbox gamepass is still the best streaming service on the market compared to both Nintendo and Sony. At 10 dollars a month 120 a year Xbox has made a service that give you access to all first part games on launch with access to some really cool and interesting third party titles. Which as of late have included the interesting ashen the long awaited below and given fans access to some real great games from both the 360 era to modern day. The online I still believe is the best but just like Sony and Nintendo the market place can also be a nightmare to explore but I still find it easier to use but that doesn’t say much. Games with gold is the ps+ equivalent and most games they offer haven’t been as good as Sony however you can still find some great games there time to time. Xbox has also lost a lot of marketing clout this gen and has had some disastrous partnerships with both fallout 76 and battlefield V and haven’t gotten the same bundles support as Sony. Another thing is they haven’t been able to make epic single player games all their first parties this gen have failed to produce a single great single player game and with that has exposed Microsoft this gen greatly. While I hate when people goes Xbox doesn’t have games which isn’t true they don’t have as many highly rated exclusives compared to their competitors. However Microsoft has spent this last couple years buying new studios to add to their first party support to correct this issue. Ninja theory and obsidian with playground are amazing studios that have been added which are great AAA talents however time will tell if next gen this money pays off. If you want the best looking console on the market with some great consumer friendly incentives Xbox is the way to go. However it’s defiantly the low man on the pole this gen.
This has been my console breakdown I hope you enjoyed it. As I said before please feel free to add and let me know if I missed something I defiantly want more free back. Maybe give it a like and if you like my work please follow me
