  • Black Desert Online's New Archer Class is Fantastic

As a slightly experienced player in the massively multiplayer online game, Black Desert Online, I've been carefully paying attention to the other classes. I have many classes high level just to get a feel for their full gameplay experience. Because Black Desert Online has a major combat focus, the class gameplay is arguably one of the most important aspects of the game. You must find that class that feels "just right" for you as you'll be playing them for hundreds of hours.

I've tried all classes, and have been able to find enjoyment with the Lahn and the Maewha classes, two melee classes who are nimble and able to dodge many enemies with relative ease. But one particular aspect of Black Desert Online (BDO) is that you must achieve level 56 in order to get the full experience of each class, except for the Archer.

The Archer is the first male elf character in the game, and the first fully ranged non-magician class that uses a crossbow and a massive greatbow for his combat. But what is most enjoyable of the Archer class is that the combat flows between the two weapons so perfectly and seamlessly that I have found the process of leveling incredibly easy and smooth. Combat is fast, Archer is agile and dodges like a professional. He feels like a veteran combatant rather than a baby you have to provide skills to as similar to other classes.

For example, the Lahn class levels up with a pendulum weapon that she swings around and her combat is graceful, elegant, and fluid like a dancer. But when she reaches level 56, her weapon becomes two bladed glaives that she swings around aggressively. The issue with this is that the weapons are completely different than before level 56. And due to the fact that you will be spending more time using the glaives, that elegance you fell in love with during leveling is no longer in use. Granted, you can still use the beautiful pendulum abilities, but it's not really worth it anymore, making all that grace obsolete.

But the Archer has both different weapons available for use immediately upon character creation, making him the first and only class so far to have access to both. That and his agile combat style has made for a very pleasant experience and most notably, you get to experience his combat as is at level 1, rather than later on in levels, making his gameplay the most truthful of all of them early on.

All in all, the Archer class is a fantastic addition to BDO's class roster and I'm very happy with him.

I'm playing it now. There are a few things that still need to be added (awakening quest), but I absolutely agree. It's by far the most fun I've had yet in this game.
