I love military-themed games; shooters and RTS (action-oriented RTS like CnC Generals and Act of War) and since RPGs are mentioned, a military RPG is a great concept.

RPG covers a pretty broad spectrum of games so of coarse it's gona be top pick. Probably 80% of what I play qualify as RPGs...
The genre is basically the epitome of escapism.

The mechanics are just so damn fun; I love building characters and managing loot.

I play and enjoy too many genres and gameplay archetypes that I can't say I have a favourite... my top five games of all time are a historic TBS/RTT, hybrid dystopian RPG/FPS, an open-world 3PP alt-history action adventure, a modern FPS and a sci-fi 3PP RPG...

You're probably no better off asking me what types of games I don't enjoy in fairness...!

But broadly speaking, it'll be a toss up between the grand strategy (Total War is my poison there and it's a darn strong one), hybrid FPS (Deus Ex/HR), and 3PP RPG (BioWare's early/mid stuff).

I love games of almost all types (not big on pvp games or large army rts) but my primary genre of choice is RPGs. I enjoy almost everything that falls into that category: CPRGs like "Divinity Original Sin", ARPGS like "Diablo", Adventure RPGs like "Witcher 3", and even Visual Novels like Yume Miru Kusuri". While I determine whether I will buy any game on a case-by-case basis, I am much quicker to consider a game if it's an rpg (but I also grade it more harshly).

RPGs. Dunno why. Epic stories, customization, a feeling of getting stronger... Can't put my finger on exactly why. Also love Action Adventure, FPS/TPS, Strategy, and a few Platformers.

I won't vote because my favorite genre is Immersive Sim, which includes games like System Shock, Thief, Dark Messiah, Deus Ex, Dishonored and Prey. None of the other categories really match.

RPGs are my favorite genre. The deeper characters, story, char customization and immersion really pull me in. I also like action adventure and horror.

What is that list? Why is sim together with management? Where are shmups, grand Strategy or 4x, twin Sticks, roguelikes, mobas? Also I don't know if "arcade" is a genre?

I think economy sims/Manager gamesare the only sims the OP knows........quite often sadly those are the only "Sims" that the majority of gamers know, as they are the only ones where a light is shown onto them.

I would bet more people know farming Simulator than Assetto Corsa or DCS or Falcon.

Good to know, now sorry for making the wrong assumption.
Sadly though that assumption had been informed by most of my encounters with the majority of gamers that aren't into sims.
