It has varied to be honest. As a kid, I was a platformer person, as I got older, I was more into FPS. Now I probably like RPGs the most.
On a sidenote, I've always had an interest for RTS during this time.
I've also come to appreciate turn-based strategy of late.Comment

Mine are missing............Combat Flight simulations.
Closely followed by, Racing Sims, Milsims/really realistic Tactical Shooters (like arma) Train Sims and Roleplaying Games.Comment

Fighting games. Any game where I cannot get at least 1000hours of playtime out of (and not perfect it etc) is not worth my money. Well, some co-op rpgs are great to play with friends, e.g the divinity series. But usually fighting games.Comment

RPG - love mostly jrpgs, but also Dragon age 1/2 and POE
RTS - my favourite genre
FPS - the ones like the 'Dusk' or 'TF2', old Battlefield games, map editors
Sim - like sims or spore
Sandbox* - this is the most favourite type and the feature of many my favourite games of any genre.
Examples would be: Stronghold Crusaders, Battlefield, Rimworld, Terraria etc

4X games (e.g. Master of Orion, Civilization, X: Beyond the Frontier) or - even more broadly - just strategy games but neither of those options are in the poll. Oops!

Turn Based Strategy not even on the list! Yeah, I realize TBS and 4x are niche these days. So I picked Sim/Manager. RPG would be my 2nd, awesome to see it's #1 for many people here. I really like racing games as well, which would be Sports I guess, but I can't stand playing them without the proper gear (steering wheel, pedals, etc) which I don't have.Comment
