  • Could Halo:Infinite be the Second Coming?

It's been almost 9 years since we've gotten a good Halo. Reach was last in the line of highly regarded installments by almost all its players. Halo 4 and 5 were not shit games, but not great games either.

4's multiplayer introduced terrible additions, like loadouts, and 5's campaign was a massive, boring disappointment. Both have implemented aspects of their competition, like Call of Duty, and muddied what originally made Halo unique. I don't hate these titles, but I do miss the classic Halo experience.

    But then, we got this...

Lo and behold - the nostalgia-tripping, mystery-nipping, hope-filling Halo: Infinite teaser came out! Just about everyone was confused when watching it for the first time. Wildlife and ruins opened the trailer, until we cheered seeing that OG Mark-VI looking body armor! Indeed it gives old veterans, like me, hope. And that is apparently the tagline of Infinite's ad-campaign. Hope is the name of the game.

Indeed I am hopeful. A return to what made Halo great, in the first place, is what I desire. And now that it has been said we PC gamers will be able to join the fight as well, makes me even happier.

I do long that it will give a new generation (or those who missed out on the Bungie titles) the fun that the older games gave us. I dream Halo: Infinite will give us the hours upon hours of fun. And I anticipate it to be an all around amazing game.

    Hope with me.

For me its almost too early to say, however, I am very excited for Halo Infinite. The mistakes they made with Halo 5 are almost unforgivable. When I saw Halo Wars 2 with a mix of the classic and new art style gave me hope for the franchise, and once I saw the new Mark VI with the mix between the two styles in the trailer I lost my shit. I am very excited to see where they go with the game. Subtle hints are also pointing it towards being open world which I am all for because one of the main parts of Halo was exploration, and I for one am very excited to relive the magic that Halo CE first gave me.

With their track record, it is very fitting to say it's too early, but that's why the hope-campaign is ironic.
The possibility of an open-world Halo also interests me. Halo 3: ODST was semi-OW and worked pretty well for itself.

Idunno. I kinda feel like you are full of shit and haven't even played Halo 5, one of the many people who stopped playing Halo after the 360 console. If the only thing you have to say about Halo 5 is how bad the campaign story was, it sounds like you are just repeating "safe" internet hate for the game. It's true, the story wasn't all that good at all, but the gunplay was great and Halo 5's multiplayer is perhaps as "classic" as you can get.

To put it less "safe" for you, Halo 5's campaign was shit. I played it. It was repetitive and boring. However, I did enjoy the multiplayer. Played the PC version this morning. It's fun and features some solid mechanics, but the classic games are where I find myself having the best of times. There's no spartan-charge, ground-pounds, or sprinting in earlier titles (save for Reach, but I only enjoyed it when applied to mini-game forge maps). The oldies are also not riddled with shitty loot packs. I forgot to mention that. I want to earn my gear!
