The latest Lets Go games. They had some great improvements (removal of HMs and IVs), but they were all overshadowed by that god awful catch mechanic that in my opinion is just another Loot Box (same psycology, repetitive task, random reward), and you can be positive this is more testing the water of how far into the scum Ninendo can go. They're just inching up the line instead of jumping back and fourth over it, further each time, like EA/Activision/ZeniMax(Bethesda). Put in the old catch system and get rid of that easy-mode OP-starter-move trainer, and you'd have a great addition the series, put in some end-game content and you'd have the best IMO.
If I was a parent, I would personally be offended that Nintendo thinks my kid is so stupid they have to water the game down that much. I played the original Pokémon Red/Blue when I was 8 and didn't need that many handouts, it was fun to be challenged. Kids are scary smart and figure things out really quickly (ask any parent dumb enough to leave a kid alone with an unlocked smartphone). Yeah, they may cry when they don't win the first time, but they'll get over it and be better for it.
I'm sick and tired of video games resorting psychologically manipulative casino tactics to up player engagement, instead of making engaging stories and character development systems you can immerse yourself in. I want to escape, not be enchanted.
Clear progression. No RNG.
Though, props for getting rid of the actual in-game casino, even if it was just for the E rating. That thing ate up lots of time and Pyen when I was a kid.
(Yes, RNG can be used in a good way, like randomly generated end-game content.)

If we are talking about core series then it has to be Sun/Moon (I haven't played Ultra Sun/Moon however)
I haven't played it in a couple of years but I remember it being ridiculously easy, even potions are a waste of time because NPCs heal your entire party every 5 minutes. No tricky wild Pokemon or trainers in the whole game except the legendaries which were admittedly hard to catch (just about the only thing they threw in for experienced players).
Too many cutscenes.
All the NPCs seemed to be insanely happy all of the time. Could they not have made characters with some...gravitas? Your rival has become your best friend and the enemy organisations have become so cartoonish that Team Rocket look like serious criminal masterminds by comparison.
I know its a kids game at heart but where is the threat, the danger, having to fight your way out of dungeons full of overpowered Pokemon, having to use your money and your items carefully, having some strategy of how you're going to beat Gyms and so on...

I'm interested, as I'm actually a little shocked to hear that perspective. Gold and Silver were my favorite Pokemon games (I used to replay them every Christmas, lol), and I thought the remakes were perfectly fine. Could just be the nostalgia goggles, though.Originally posted by RepentantSky View PostGold and Silver are fine in my opinion, one of the best if fact, but the remakes, SoulSilver and HeartGold, man those were awful. I made an entire list of why I hate them if anyone is interested and wants to read it, but suffice it to say, I feel like it took steps backwards in so many ways outside of visuals, that it's was a failure of a project.
I did not like Diamond and Pearl. The battles felt obnoxiously slow, and it just didn't feel like a step up at all from Ruby and Sapphire to me (aside from the awesome physical/special split for Pokemon moves). Canalave City's music is great, though.

I'd go with Ultra Moon, the game is laggy during double battles, Hau was a shit rival rivaling the X/Y ones (and I hated those seriously friendly rivals are awful both in idea and execution). Also if you played OG Moon you have 0 reason to play these games, seriously you shouldn't pay more than the price of a DLC.

To be honest I didn't like Pokemon Black & White story. Don't get me wrong I love the Pokemon (Specially: Zoroark).
But I don't see my self ever touching that game again.

Anything Gen 6 and up, fairy types are too op. All they needed to do was make them weak to fire types and I'd be fine, but as it stands fairy types annoy me too much.

I would have to say Sun and Moon and the Ultra versions too i didn't like how they got rid of the gyms. They were also pretty laggy at times especially if you didn't have the new 3ds.
