  • Metroid Samus Returns was pleasantly surprising, I must say (Possible spoilers)

With the Melee Counter and Aeon powers, I was a bit skeptical on how faithful it would be going into it, especially when Federation Force and Other M were marred in controversy to say the least. Once I actually played the game, I realized the melee counter isn't effortless to pull off, you need some timing so it's not exactly just Press X to win. The Aeon Powers also felt pretty natural, with the game cleverly having enemies designed to counter them. All in all, I had a blast with the game. My one nitpick is making Ridley the final boss. Not because it wasn't quite challenging and satisfying to beat him, but because Metroid II was one of the few games that DIDN'T have him appear. It would be like shoving Ganondorf into the 3DS remake of Majora's Mask, it's a reoccurring boss that didn't need to be there. If you're going to have a surprise boss, Kraid's barely been in any of them.
