What is your personal favorite 2D ARPG (Action Role Playing Game) this year?

Gotta say my favorite 2D ARPG this year was Cross Code. Everything about it was just breathtaking. Music was just expertly made with the type of game it was. Combat was fluid for a pixel rpg game. I am only a little under half way done with the game, but I've also been doing the side quests and everything the game has to offer. Curse you completionist me! Expect a review from me about this game coming soon.

When i think of 2D ARPG i think Castlevania SOTN and Aria of Sorrow. Not really much in the way of story so i'm not sure if it qualifies as ARPG..

I'm being loose in my interpretation of 2D ARPG. Basically any game that is either 2D Isometric/Pixel or just 2D side-scroller

I don't know if I even played a 2D Action/RPG released this year unless you count Hollow Knight on the Switch.

Technically 2.5D and pseudo-isometric, and more NES Zelda than Baldur's Gate as far as "RPG" goes but it's an incredibly imaginative, dense and challenging fantasy adventure.

Well, not published this year, but "Mark of the Ninja" was remastered this year and that is an excellent ninja platformer with good stealth mechanics, a skill system, and really enjoyable gameplay. Better, in my opinion, than any of the AC Chronicles platformers.

As for games I've played this year, "Inside" is a deeply atmospheric, wonderfully artistic, and superbly engaging platformer in the same vein as "Limbo".
